the pass and i.d. people told me that any civilian can get a permit to enter the mcchord air field if he has an enhanced drivers license or u.s. passport... now if he is coming on the field with a in my case, a retired civ. employee possessing a cac without the chip, all required is a valid drivers license on his part... will pass this info on to Glen and see what he would like to do.. Enlighten me- what is an enhanced drivers license and what does it do? Thanks for your efforts and pictures when it happens. Dinner is still on me.........

My wife just listened to the bagpipes of Amazing Grace and had to comment on how flawless it was. Very nice to hear and pays tribute to all who served. One of her favorite hymns especially when we've been here ten thousand years. John Newton wrote that song to convince Great Britain that slavery has to be stopped. Here is its genealogy. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazing_Grace ............ How it became a prominent piece to be played at military funerals, second only to TAPS isn't mentioned, but even if you don't know the words, the music in itself (Britain is the music's title)is haunting and causes one to reflect on what we have done. Strange, also, that 2 American patriotic songs are set to British music- Yankee Doodle Dandy and the Star Spangled Banner...... Perhaps I should have posted this in the Trivia Topic, But I didn't. Today is the day to remember those that gave their lives at places with names like Yorktown, Valley Forge, Ft. MacHenry, Gettysburg, The Alamo (American-Texicans- a strange hyphenation and a prelude to them becoming Americans), San Juan Hill, Verdun, St. Miehel (?) Omaha, Juno, Bastogne, Bataan, Sciliy, Corrigidor, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, Chosin Reservoir, Pork Chop Hill, Khe San, Granada, Kosovo, and too damned many names unknown to me from Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan. Strange isn't it,that the most prominent Americans rendering the honors to the men, and women who gave all, are the Americans THAT GAVE SOME!!, Yes, I stand as tall as this old arthritic body can and render the most military salute I can, and remembering: “They are dead; but they live in each Patriot’s breast, And their names are engraven on honor’s bright crest.” “This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave,” The tired Old Sarge

Going to the Memorial Day service at the VA cemetery in Gustine, CA. My wife's parents are interred there (her father was in the Navy during WWII.) They will be honoring Vietnam Vets. My brother-in-law, who is also going, served in Army in Vietnam. Then we'll be heading down to Castle AFB for open cockpit day. That should be fun. Tom, you will have a good time at CAM. The ceremony for the John Marcotte plaque at the F-106 display will be at 1 pm on Sunday. I just spoke with Bruce Gookin (crew chief) and Lou Pizzarello (MA-1) who will be there with other 456ers. Introduce yourself and have fun!

Since Pastor Jim has passed away, we seem to be missing some important historical dates. One of these was VE Day , 8 May 45. The a/c is based at Mesa, AZ's Falcon Field- a WW2 pilot training base for British pilots....

This presentation that Pat is talking about took the better part of 2 hours and had a power point presentation. So, if any of you think that it might even be remotely possible that you have come into contact with Agent Orange, look into this. The Ranch Hand aircraft did not stay in VN, nor did the Caribou that the USAF inherited from the Army in '67.........

Anyone know what the weight of an A-model bubble canopy with glass? My canopy actuator failed again (59-0086). I will take it out next week and attempt repairs; but just in case its' not repairable, I will replace it with a linear actuator. I just don't know what weight class actuator to get. Hey, Welcome back!!!!!!!!! Believe you are looking at around 125 lbs.......... Exact weight, unknown to me. Don't believe the weight was listed in the -5 weight and balance handbook, as the a/c wasn't considered flyable without it......

When we assumed the Soldier, we did not lay aside the Citizen; and we shall most sincerely rejoice with you in the happy hour when the establishment of American Liberty, upon the most firm and solid foundations shall enable us to return to our Private Stations in the bosom of a free, peacefully and happy Country. —George Washington (1775)
The foundation was laid upon solid bedrock, that is now being eroded away by the steady stream of progressiveness that eventually destroys everything in its path. Pray to GOD that the stream can be dammed and the flow diluted and rendered harmless. The Old Sarge (2015)

Never knew at we took any VC prisoners out of country. When I was there in 64 again in 65 and PCS 66-67, ARVN did the interrogations with a VNAF C-47 and 3000 ft altitude. I was told that it only worked if they had 3 or more guests on board........ Their favorite proving grounds were over the French Foreign Legion cemetary just outside the main gate at Tan Son Nuht AB.

Mark, I just asked Belinda how old her younger brother is. I guess I got the year wrong. He is 59 years old. War ended in 73 and who knows how long the POW exchanges took. Seven years will make a difference

The news on my brother-in-law is bad. Cancer is terminal. Its in his lung, spot on liver, & one kidney. Can't do much with the lung, surgery might remover the spot on the liver, and they likely will take that kidney out. Doctors say its one to two years at best and with treatment maybe extend to three years. Quality of life likely pretty bad. He was a U.S. Marine exposed to agent orange & he is only 52 years old. Same thing with my cousin a Marine exposed to agent orange and died in his early 50's. This is hitting Belinda pretty bad so prayers for all are requested. Thanks. No matter how bad we think we have it, others have it worse. Sorry to hear that Gary. I have a question though. A USMC veteran exposed to Agent Orange, and only 52? I'm 52. How in the world? The last guys exposed to AO were reserve C-123 crews in the 70s from the "hand-me-down" planes that were flown over in Vietnam during Operation Ranch Hand. The C-123 was retired in 1980 (to the best of my knowledge.) Guys that are 52 now were 18 in 1982. What did he do in the USMC that late that got him exposed to Agent Orange? Mark O Mark, the DOD was burying that stuff all over the world well into the 80s..... They have proven that it was used at OSAN to clear a perimeter defense zone around the base. And I have seen the DOD and DAF memos and papers on this. This stuff has been discovered up around the Korean DMZ. Who is to say it wasn't used in country here?? www.jonmitchellinjapan.com/agent-orange-on-okinawa.html
