I'm thinking about changing the default editor from Visual to BBCode...if I can. I'm wondering if the WYSIWYG of the Visual editor is too taxing for some members systems/browsers. I'll be checking into it later today. And another thing I'm seeing is not all compaints are "problems" rather 'changes' that are hard to get used to because we're all set in our ways. The most work I've done/had to do is try to replicate the new v5 site functions as the ild site was in an effort to make the switch as transparent as possible ...not an easy thing when working with new technology. Anyway, will keep plugging along. Sent from my HTC_X515E using proboards MOW, all of the newer forums and blogs I have visited work in the Visual mode. Even though it takes a few days to get used to it, most users seem to like it better. I'm posting this in the BBCode view to see if I can upload a picture successfully and have it able to be enlarged. Let's see if it works. Edit: Nope, didn't enlarge. Yes, I agree. Most of what we now see here is common usability everywhere, just not common from our old board thus hard to get used to for many. I want to make it as simple as possible for everyone even at the expense of going backwards technology-wise, as close to as the prior functionality as we can get without going too far backwards. We'll see how it goes over the next week or so, but the complaints I see so far calls everything that works differently a bug, when in fact many of the complaints are about 'different'. There are things I'm still working on, but there are also things I've changed/added such as: - The thread title in the Action Bar above - Enlarged text size in certain places - Enlarged the top menu text size - Widened the board by 60px - Alternated the background colors of Quoted text as you reply - Added the "I'm Online or Offline" status in mini-profile - Added Send PM back into the mini-profile (although it is under the 'wheel' in the menu And there are other things I'm still investigating. One of my hot ones is getting a Reply button/text into each post rather than top/bottom of each thread... a lot of resistance to that one from coders, but we'll see what I can find. And those damn attachments still don't open that you upload... I don't know why but I'll figure it out. Pat

Strange, I am typing this on my wife's desktop. It is working great, no typing delay and scrolling is smooth. This machine is W-8 running IE-10. So, why does my laptop, Vista, w/IE-9, have probems? The laptop doesn't have problems typing or scrolling, except on V5. I am on defaults on both machines. Strange.

I don't know, but on all my Win 7 machines and XP it works good too.

Changing the Smilie Default in your Profile... I'm not a big fan of that now, because it makes you click on Enable Smilies before you can select one, and by doing so it changes your cursor location to the top of the post... ummm I need to look into that, but I'm change my default back to Enabled. Since I renamed the smilie files we shouldn't see any problems again.

I noticed I put down wrong information on what my desktop machine has. It is Win 7, with IE9. I didn't think we bought a new computer. Jim Too

MOW wrote in the Shoutbox: Yes, disabling the Smiles Defaults in your profile will definitely work. My renaming convention however, takes that 'need' out of the members hands just in case some don't ever change that setting... safe than sorry.
The renaming convention should work fine. I was thinking that if there was a master setting for setting the Smile Setting default to Disabled that would allow users to Opt-in (Enable) if they wanted to. With the new renaming convention completed there could possibly be a random occurance of Smiles appearing but not likely very often.
On the table borders on Board & Thread listings, I kind of like the structure of borders but I am neutral on the topic and will go with the crowd on this one. Don't care on the moderator titles one way or the other.
Thanks, Pat P.

I know this is a work in progress, I like it so far...I use Fire Fox for my browser excursively. The only time I use IE9 is at work and they have so many lock downs on it I rarely check the forum there anymore. I haven't had a problem viewing pictures, I haven't tried to upload as of yet. If there is a link to a picture I click on it and it works fine. I'm running Win 7, Newest Fire Fox desktop Win XP, Fire Fox on laptops..

Again most photos not displaying. >:D Hi Gary, Are you saying that most photos are not showing on the posts you create with pictures in them? or are you saying that most photos are not showing on the posts created by others? If it's this one, are you seeing a small black box with a red X in it rather than a picture? Please try to upload one of your pictures from your PC Desktop when you reply to this post and let's see what happens. Thanks, Pat P.

_thumbsupdouble
Edit: Well that was an experience! I had just written a post about the beta v5 test and HELP button. I put a smilie doublle thumbs up at the end and it blew away all my text.
I had my personal settings set to disable smiles. After typing the post I clicked on smiles and there was a box that said Enable Smiles. So I clicked it and installed the double thumbs up. That's when it blew away all the text I had typed. I could not recover my text.
In the personal setting menu in your profile the Smiles Default says, "Sets whether applicable plain text displays as smiles". This is misleading and should say, "Turns on or off smiles functionality for your posts".
Needless to say, I'm going to enable Smiles Default in my personal settings profile.
I'll try again later to retype the text I started to post.

I haven't seen that yet, but I will try it here in a minute, but I did comment yesterday how when I had smiles disabled, and you clicked Enable Smiles, the curser jumped to the top of the post even on top of the Quote. It should have stayed where it was, BUT since you are enabling something that has previously Disabled, it must reset itself. I do not recommend turning off smiles default. Attachment Deleted

Wow, cursor showed up as soon as I clicked the mouse, Then took a $hit...... Pat P- can you read my shouts from this AM? ?? Jim, Yes, I could read your shouts. Am I looking for one in particular? Like MOW said yesterday, the Shout is like a tweet or text message. It has a defined character length which I have been trying to find on ProBoards (seems like I read 170 or 190 somewhere). If you hit return, it will send the Shout immediately (kind of like when you are having an on-line chat with a support desk). If I can't find the defined character length of a Shout I'll type the number 9 and count them. Pat P. Edit: Damn, it's 256 characters - on the right side in a count down counter - how conveeeeeeenient!

OK,,,What I most often get is a box with a small box and red X insided. To the left is blue text code and when I click on it the photo will then display. Its a pain in the butt. Must just be some setting I need to change,,,,you think?

Must just be some setting I need to change,,,,you think? The small box with the red X in it shows there is 'suppose' to be an element there (image, photo, file etc) but can't find the path to display it. These attachment uploads go to the Proboard servers to include the thumbnail image... the one that is suppose to be where the red X is. When you click the blue url link (text code) beside the red X box does it open the small thumbnail or the original image? What browser are you using? And are you typing in the default Visual editor or in the BBCode editor?
