OK,,,What I most often get is a box with a small box and red X insided. To the left is blue text code and when I click on it the photo will then display. Its a pain in the butt. Must just be some setting I need to change,,,,you think? The small box with the red X in it shows there is 'suppose' to be an element there (image, photo, file etc) but can't find the path to display it. These attachment uploads go to the Proboard servers to include the thumbnail image... the one that is suppose to be where the red X is. When you click the blue url link (text code) beside the red X box does it open the small thumbnail or the original image? What browser are you using? And are you typing in the default Visual editor or in the BBCode editor? The original image pops up. The photo! Browser = Explorer Looks like the Visual editor is the default now.

I see we're getting the double .jpg.jpg added to the end of the file during upload. That's been reported to support already by others. I'll add ours too.

Jim, I put this in the Shout box but here it is again. Jim, go to control panel>mouse>mouse properties>pointer options. Select the option that makes the curser stay on when typing. In the pointers tab you can select a bigger or outlined arrow for better visibility. Or just go buy a wireless mouse... and a 6-pack of green beer!
Judy bought a HP laptop and got tired of using two hands on the touch pad to control the mouse and buttons. She had bought MS Office 2010 and it came bundled with a wireless mouse. It uses a small plugin to a USB port and workes wirelessly. She likes here curser to be OFF when she types but that drives me nuts. You can also make the curser more defined so it stands out better. Jim - I don't know what to tell ya. I have not seen any complaints about mouse or cursor action on the support boards and I cannot replicate what your experiancing.
Like PatP says, check your mouse settings in Control Panel.
And don't forget, ENTER = SEND in SHOUTOUT. If it drives you that crazy, don't use SHOUTOUT, just write up a post.

Pat P. no cursor til I type. This is a wireless mouse What I call the cursor might be wrong name as Mark calls the Ibeam follows the mouse. What I am talking about is the vertical line that pulses, blinks or what ever. If I wait about 5 seconds it will disappear and the arrow keys don't function at all.... When they do, vertical line doesn't move at all..you have to count how many spaces you want to move, and hope you are right.. Changing as suggested had absolutly no effect or affect.....I can put the "I"Beam any place here and click it-maybe I'll get the verticle line telling me where my next letter will go, and maybe I won't........I have no problems what soever on anything else in the web world, blog sites whatever and they only showed up on V5- didn't show up on the little test thing that I can remember.Am going to the laptop which uses Windows Vista and IE9 .....

Cursor stays steady for a few seconds, goes away for a few seconds and comes back again, it doesn't pulse and arrow keys don't move it space bar brings it back again Again mouse properties have nothing to do with knowing where your next letter is going to go......... Will get a wired mouse tonight and try that...

Some of those other windows may have been updating in the background and your cursor may have stopped blinking on this forum. The solution in this case is to close some of the other programs. Another tip was that IE Add-Ons may be causing the problem. Read the page link and see how to check that out. Another problem noted was that is you have a slow or high traffic internet connection with your ISP. I remember you saying something about this a while back. If you add all three of those possibilities together (many programs open, IE add-ons conflicting, and slow Internet connection) you have three things to do to see if the problem goes away. The cursor is the blinking I-beam that Mark talks about. The arrow that your mouse moves around is the pointer.

Jim, To show you how much "horsepower" this beta forum is using, I turned on my task manager with only IE running this V5 Forums / TIPS / INFO / Links page. My CPU was cycling every 1-2 seconds between 0 and 55% usage.
Compare that to MOW's beta test page we are using to test problems with ProBoards that is running at 1-3% steady CPU usage.
This afternoon the entire Proboards system servers has peak usage and is slowing everything down, including moving scroll bars or planting your cursor to type a post or just typing. Our Beta V5 site may be on one of the more high usage servers, too.
So it's likely that you have one or more of the problems mentioned in the Microsoft Forum link sent earlier in addition to the overall high traffic on the Proboards system rght now. I was up at 3:30 AM this morning and this site was running very fast while most users were snooz'in!

A couple observations... 1) When a reply was posted on the old forums, the thread jumped to the LAST page, and the new reply was on the bottom. In this version after you hit "Create Post" the thread goes to the FIRST page. The new post is still on the bottom of the last page, so that's fine. It's just something I noticed. EDIT: Okay, that didn't happen this time. My reply to the Weather thread, and the Government thread happened like I described above, but this one went to the last page. 2) I haven't been able to get the "Quick Preview" to do anything other than flash a very quick, unknown icon in the center of the screen. Is that supposed to happen, or am I missing something?

First, i you click the "Quick Preview" button all it does is refresh the Visual Editor textarea here that we're typing in with an accurate live preview. But, if you click the "Visual" tab below it does the same thing. Not sure what use it is having that button up there.

Okay, now I'm replying using Firefox. The same answer applies, but this was easier. I'll figure this thing out sooner or later!

Agreed . It was a plug-in and I found a way to remove it. By clicking the Visual tab below it does the same thing... refreshes the view, so it was redundant anyway.

Okay, let me test it out. Hmmm? I pasted the link for the above photo, clicked on "Visual", and since it was already in that mode, it didn't do anything. That makes sense. So I hit "BBCode", then hit "Visual" again, and got the preview I was expecting. I may have been born at night (10:10 p.m. to be specific) but it wasn't LAST NIGHT! Besides, this wasn't just a test. We needed an F-106 photo posted. It's what I do!

We needed an F-106 photo posted. It's what I do! What you 'expect' to see and what is suppose to show up probably are a bit different. When you just copy in a url in Visual mode it is just text UNLESS you highlight the text, click on the URL button up top and insert the URL in it to make the text a link. Refreshing the view will not do do that... changing the view to BBCode will, thus when you went back to Visual your jump between Visual and BBC did the same thing as if you highlight the text, click on the URL button up top and insert the URL in it to make the text a link. This is why when you click Create Post the photo shows up after it's posted, because the view changes to what the system now knows is a URL... the original text you typed/copied in.
