- UPDATE: This appears to work in FF but not IE.
Spell Check is suppose to occur as you type a word, as with most softwhere these days, and if it's wrong it underlines it in red. I'll check into this more, but in this post I have made BOLD, ITALIC and UNDERLINED all the words I'm being told are spelled wrong.
- The Old Forum is gone! There is no turning back. I think some of you will need to check your IE settings. Turn Off Compatability View.
- The Forum is the exact same width as before 920px width. Maybe the font is different so I can change that. I did just increase the width of the forum to 1000px, which is bigger than before.
- I do not see any delay with Text appearing as I type. Will look harder into this, but when I type the text appears as normally.
- The Last 100 Posts is gone, replaced with Recent Threads and Recent Posts, which ARE NOT limited to the last 100. I can make this font bigger on those links BUT the font as-is, is the same size as before. Maybe it's a different font type I'll check.
- No Smilies? Yes, they should be there. I will check the support board and see if anyone is seeing the 'cutoff' problem. It might be a bug.
- Curser problems... I'm not seeing it. I'm either used to it or it's something I'm just not seeing. I'll investigate, but the curser goes wherever I click it to go.
- Use Visual mode, which is the default, NOT BBCode, which you actually have to click on to get to.
- CORRECTIONS BELOW:
REPLY button is at the Top and Bottom of each Thread, not each Post. The REPLY button at the bottom is for the QUICK REPLY function (this should have read POST QUICK REPLY). The Next Page menu bar, which includes Actions and Search, scrolls with the page and always remains at the top of your screen UNTIL YOU REACH THE BOTTOM OF THE THREAD... ONCE THE THREAD IS OFF SCREEN E.G. YOU NOW ONLY SEE THE QUICK REPLY BOX OR SOMETHING BELOW THAT, THIS MENU NO LONGER SHOWS.. I wish the REPLY button was there too... I'll check around and see who else is complaining about this and if it will change.
- I don't see any image attachment problems. After you have uploaded an image click INSERT to add it to your post.
- The the undelined "F" and red "no" circle is Remove Formatting. When you place you mouse over it, or any button, a balloon does appear telling you what it is. This might be a browser setting issue.
- I adjusted the number of attachments to is max of 3. Attachments can not exceed 1MB in size. These are the defaults for the free forum. Increases to these defaults cost money.
- I kinda thought seeing where the QUOTE is would be obvious... the QUOTED text is INSIDE the gray border when you are replying. If you are typing inside the gray border in your reply, then you're inside someone else quote.
- Some Scrolling info: In FF go to your menu Tools/Options/Advanced tab/General tab and check the status of your Browsing checkboxes. In IE go to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and check your settings there.
- Color Theme: Verify you are actualy seeing the new default theme. Click your Profile/Edit Profile button/Settings tab and you should see the Forum Theme as Default Blue. Click Save Account Settings.
- Any Post you reply to will end up with a Back to Top link in the lower right corner of your reply. It is only there on your replies.
- When pasting in text you have copied from the Internet or Word or somewhere, copy it into the BBCode tab not the Visual tab. There is a Visual and a BBCode tab you all have probably seen. BBCode recognizes the text formatting you have copied from somewhere else and displays it properly AND doesn't break the Smilies. Visual is meant for you to type in and by inserting heavily formatted text from elsewhere it renders some functions inop like Smilies.

What happens Pat, is a message pops up at bottom of screen that says "Do you want to Open or Save C-Document and Settings-HP.....PHPERRY?" Clicking OPEN a screen pops up "Windows Can't Open File" and nothing happens headbang

I'm sure we'll get used to it. We'll bitch, scraem, and kick, but we'll get used to it.
I appreciate the work you've done. BTW, I misspelled scream above as a test with compatibility mode off just to test. Didn't see anything as I typed it, so we'll see when I post it.
Seriously, thanks for your help.
Edit: Very interesting. I did NOT insert the smilie up there. I TYPED the word t h a n k s (without the spaces of course) and it put the smilie in there. Now there is a feature I can live without. Modern technology or not, that's putting something in I did not intend or want.
P.S. The italics staying on is bothersome as well.

The Reply # is back on each post now.
I'm in FF now and the word scream spelled as scraem just got red underlined as I typed this... going back to right click on it now and it does give me the options to change to other words. I'll go do this in IE 9 and see what happens.

I'm in IE 9 now, Compatability View unchecked, and sure enough the word scream spelled as scraem DOES NOT red underline. Damn MS! I'll ask why it's doing this.

Two minor gripes... one, the lack of a prominent "Newest Posts", and two, the jokers at PB forced me to "upgrade my account" to login. Somebody needs a little Percussive Education A La Jethro* for that... *"Repeated Sharp Whacks To Back OF Head"--hey, it's done wonders for DiNozzo! LOL

I'm in FF now. I just want to scream! Okay, got the word underlined, right-clicked it, and it worked like a champ.
I think I found a new browser to use when I'm on this forum. Gonna type out the word thanks just to see what happens...
Edit: Yep. It inserted the smilie.

You old account should have worked. The word is now RECENT not Latest... I will make the text in the Threads and Posts section bigger.

Apparently, when I logged in at this hotspot--lost my perma-login cookie at last logoff--they noticed I had a PB Global account with the same email and insisted on merging the two. I'm not totally sure... just a cheeseoff since I like to keep my accounts separated so if one site gets hacked other logons don't get compromised with it.
Minor nuisance, that's all... I'll get over it.

I changed the LINK color in the Forum Information & Statistics section of the Home page to the more standard blue (000ff). Is this better? Should ALL links on the site be this color?

For some good news, the forums on my Android are MUCH easier than the old version. That's without any Proboards app. In fact, I'm soaking in it... I mean I'm using my Android right now. Nice!

2 images uploaded from the same exact location on my system. The first one uploaded was .JPG and it did not work (same as yours). Then I changed case to .jpg and it worked. No idea yet if case extension matter, but I was able to replicate your problem. I'll keep looking. Thanks MOW. I remember in the old system when I uploaded a photo or .pdf file or .gif, the full path always appeared in the upload attachment field but the file was the only thing that actually uploaded to the server. Of course this new version is more advanced with visual view and probably works differently regarding uploaded pictures. I have checked all my browser settings in my IE 8 and they are OK. I have Google Chrome but have not tried it yet on the Forum. I may download FF and see if that works any differently. PS: I clicked on both of the Comp Cams logos and the both opens in enlarged version. Thanks, Pat P.

Why Ron's Smilies failed to work in his post.
The heavily formatted text that he copied and pasted into the Visual editor made the Smiley code not work.
When pasting in text you have copied from the Internet or Word or somewhere, copy it into the BBCode tab not the Visual tab. There is a Visual and a BBCode tab you all have probably seen. Maybe I'll try using the BBCode and see what happens.

MOW, performance of V5 is getting a little better each day as you find things to report to tech support and as you tweak those things you can tweak. The system is slowing especially during peak user periods and possibly due to the inefficiency of the code in V5 that is being worked out.... or a combination of both. The latter will take time to fix but the former (peak usage) might be because we are on a crowded server. Anyway, just wanted to say hang in there! Launching a new system version is often like changing a flat tire on your car while it's still rolling.

I'm thinking about changing the default editor from Visual to BBCode...if I can. I'm wondering if the WYSIWYG of the Visual editor is too taxing for some members systems/browsers. I'll be checking into it later today.
And another thing I'm seeing is not all compaints are "problems" rather 'changes' that are hard to get used to because we're all set in our ways. The most work I've done/had to do is try to replicate the new v5 site functions as the ild site was in an effort to make the switch as transparent as possible ...not an easy thing when working with new technology.
Anyway, will keep plugging along.

Even though it takes a few days to get used to it, most users seem to like it better. I'm posting this in the BBCode view to see if I can upload a picture successfully and have it able to be enlarged. Let's see if it works. Edit: Nope, didn't enlarge. Attachment Deleted

MOW, Now I have set my personal settings to BBCode. Let's see how that works with pictures uploaded. Edit: Nope, that didn't work either. I'm changing my personal settings back to Visual. Attachment Deleted
