Pat P. here using IE 8 on Win XP. Turned off Compatability View in the IE Tools drop down menu as MOW suggested. Doing a Quote to Lorin's post. I have attached a photo to see how it works. Little to no hesitation to see typing appear on screen (I am using the Visual mode rather than the BBCode (bulletin board code) to compose this reply. The BBCode shows all the characters we used to see when doing a Quote reply with the old system. I did not select the Font Face or Font Size for this reply so it is using some default setting. Trying a smiley now Looks like it worked. Some of the old smilies still missing but MOW is working that. No bouncing curser problems noticed yet. Page width appears to be the same as old system. Really miss the last 100 posts option but will read the Help area tutorials to see what is available. Just noticed that when I typed enough to add a scroll bar to the frame I had to use the mouse wheel to scroll down to where my curser was located. In other words, the the auto scroll did not keep my curser in sight unless I started typing again, then it advanced. The end, Pat P. Edit: Tried to enlarge thumbnail picture and got a dialog box that allowed a Find, Save or Cancel function. The picture I uploaded was remanes to storage.proboards.com/0/0/t/aEqypYwD3B4krjzJg24a.jpg . If you go there you only see the same thumbnail picture, no enlargement. There may have to be a frame page assigned to all uploaded documents that allows them to be opened to the actual size on the screen. End of edit. Pat P.

Font and size is all configurable... I can tweak that. Make me a list of what fonts to change and where. The smilies box is still in work. Arrow buttons should be working. Are you using IE? What scroll bar for the Smiles? When I click on the yellow smile in the menu above, they open in a gray window and it stays there until I click something. Oky, when I click on the smiley, it displays on left side and note all are displayed- as soon as I click on the scroll bar (to move entire DISPLAY which would bring the rest of the smilies into view) to move the smilies up to posssibly select one, the whole shebang disappears insert what code here????????????????????? what do the 7 icons to the left of the smilie indicate/do??? Dure as hell don't want click on teh cin the square box..... insert code here

teacher Jim, I counted 51 smilies (emoticons) in the menu but the menu doesn't have a scroll bar on it. If I select a smiley the menu opens up to show me what's available but if I click anywhere outside that menu the menu box turns off which is supposed to happen. Maybe Im not understanding the problem you are having? Hmmmm... just noticed there is no Preview option or Spell Check. Maybe there is no preview option because what you see is what you get (WYSIWYG). It's nice to have this feature rather than the little crowded typing box we had with the old system. Pat P.

Most of the pictures will not display for me anymore. Get a box often with a link in it and the link opens to som BS page. The two I opened, one had blobs on it and the other the cartoon of a girls hair. Whats with that?

A couple things. First, there is no "Reply" button I see when reading recent posts, just a "quote" button. I had to open the thread, then scroll down to the bottom to add this reply. Seems like to many steps added to a previously easy function.
Next, when I move the cursor to a previous spot in the text I just typed the "placeholder" does not show up when I click the "I-beam" on the spot I want. I discovered it was where I put it, but won't show unless I hit another key. This also relates to a lack of spell check. Additionally, I almost always use the "Preview" option as a final spell check before I post. I may spell a word correctly, but is certainly doesn't fit correctly in the sentence I just typed. (Some folks call that "fast-fingering.")
Also, what exactly is the button with the undelined "F" and red "no" circle for? In fact, it would be nice to have the little instruction pop-up when you place the cursor over those buttons -- this one does not do that. Most are obvious, but certainly not all of them.
Just want to test Photobucket real quick here too. This is another reason I use Preview. I can make sure the photo I add actually shows up. Gonna have to trust this works, but I'd like to preview it.

Okay, a couple other observations. Regarding the pop-up when you scroll over the buttons. I noticed that feature works with the "Shoutbox", but not the reply.
Next -- and this is just a "would be nice" thing -- is the next page feature on the recently viewed posts would suit me better if it was on the BOTTOM of the list instead of the TOP of the list. If I read all of the recent posts, and want to go to the next page I have to scroll back to the top of the page I just read to go to the next page. Does that make sense?
And for some reason the cursor is showing up when I move the I-beam now to edit my in work progress! Go figure! (Edit: It seems to come and go -- mostly not work -- when I went in to edit this post.)
As far as the "smilies" go, when I click on the button for that I only get a list as big as my screen. I know there are more, but I have to use the down arrow on my keyboard to scroll down to see them. Sort of a pain, but workable I guess.
*Jim, this is the work-around for that problem. You CAN NOT use the scroll bar on the right side of the screen to see the rest of the smilies.
This version seems to be take a bit more effort to use than the previous one.

I see what you mean about placing the cursor now. It has changed everytime I've been on today. As far as the arrow key? Well, must be from those pre-Windows days! That, and nothing else worked! By the way, having a preview (and seeing your cursor) would help so you know where your reply goes. ARRRGH! This is driving me crazy! I just lost my cursor again going back to fix a fast-finger typo!!! Edit: And of course the sentence you wrote about the down arrow that I TRIED TO QUOTE didn't show up. It was SO much easier before. This is definitely going to take some practice.

O.K., I put the Smiley on, there is no scroll bar in the Smiley box. There are still lots of Smileys missing. When I scroll, the pages jump all over the place. The new colour thingee is not as good as the old one. There are no post numbers on top of each individual post. My fingers are able to type faster than the letters appear on the screen. Pat P., what is the BBC code you are talking about ? Do we really have to go through the BEEB's server in London, in order to type? I'm sure all the bugs will get worked out, soon I hope, and we will all be flying through this new system, with few problems. However, until then? MOW, I agree with Lorin's post about all the effort you have put in to this change, and really do appreciate it.I, too, wonder when you sleep. Jim Too

I'm trying to selectively edit a quote again. What we should see when I hit 'Create Post" is the first three lines of Jim Too's last post. Jim Too, the smilies are not missing. You have to use the "down arrow" on your keyboard to see the rest of them.

This is Pat P. I am using the Visual method of posting. Testing adding a picture using Add Attachment button. Then I will post it. Then I will edit the post and use the Insert Image button to add another copy of the picture. Edit: It appears that the Add Attachment will only add the .jpg image to the body of the post and not to a linked storage location within the forum. The Insert Image button apparently requires a URL to a photo hosting site. In other words, the picture uploading feature on V5 does not upload a file to the Forum like the old version did. MOW, is this a feature that would require and add-on program to the new forum?

You need to click INSERT after you upload a photo, that's what it's for.. to INSERT your photo. Thought I did hit Insert after the upload. Will try again. MOW, when you see the image on this post, try to click on it to enlarge and see what happens. Thanks, Pat P. Attachment Deleted
