This is a interesting picture off facebook of an F-86 at McChord AFB, WA. It was stated by the poster that it was used to tow target darts. I had to be 1950's or 60's vintage as the jets at McChord in the 1970's all had radar and fired guided rockets.
I think it is possible that this guy was just passing through MAFB. If I remember, Boeing owned that F-86, and contracted it out. Not sure on the specifics.

Blue Angels AND Thunderbirds
For the first time ever, the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels debut a F-16 Fighting Falcon and F/A-18 Super Hornet flight formation known as the “Super Delta” during a joint training evolution this afternoon over the Imperial Valley.
The formation grew out of a series of joint training opportunities held in 2020 and 2021, and serves as a symbol of the teamwork, discipline, and skill of the men and women of our United States military forces deployed around the globe.
We are humbled to have the opportunity to virtually debut a full flight this Memorial Day weekend during the nation-wide broadcast of the National Memorial Day Parade: America Stands Tall, hosted by the American Veterans Center in Washington, D.C., honoring those who have served and sacrificed before us.
Tune-in to your ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox affiliate May 29 -31, to view the debut of this formation flight with re-airings in the weeks to follow. For more information about the parade and virtual flyover, visit www.NationalMemorialDayParade.com.

Missed that one, but Pratt used to have a whole series like that in the '80s; I had a few as a boy.

Didn't take pictures, but we had first snowfall of season today. It covered the ground and cars, roofs etc. But shortly after it stopped it started to melt and is now mostly gone. But sure did look nice when it was all white outside. Gas prices are pretty steady around $3.20. Hope everyone reflected on thier service time on Veterans Day. Thank all of you for your service, your sacrifice and your dedication to duty. Lorin

Well today is a crappy day. Rain and 40 degrees. I had doctor appointment with Pain Specialist. Now I go back tomorrow and he will inject pain med into my SI Joint (Joins hip and spine) as I have been having a lot of pain when walking too much. If I get relief from pain, the neurosurgeon will bring me in and fuse SI Joint. I had left side done few years back. That was painful, but reduced pain in hip bone area. I have had chronic lower back pain since late 20's. I have MRI Thursday for same Neurosurgeon. She did MRI of lower spine a month ago. So after the injection and MRI I go back to see her and figure out how best to treat pain. I sure is Hell to get old and worn out. Lorin

So after the injection and MRI I go back to see her and figure out how best to treat pain. I sure is Hell to get old and worn out. Lorin Lorin, my wife had a bulging disc between Lumbar L4 and L5 where the Sciatic nerves leave there and go down each leg. Pain was bad and she had to sleep in a recliner with legs upward and back flat on the seat.
Ortho Surgeon did MRI and said he could fix the problem with a partial discectomy but she had to go through pain shots first before Insurance would approve surgery. Pain shots were temporary fix (2-3 weeks). She finally went through Laparoscopic surgery (1.5-inch incision) where he removed the bulging disc parts that were touching the Sciatic nerve. Took only 28 minutes in Outpatient Surgery. Doc told me she would never have the problem again and she hasn't. That was in 2006.
The lumbar vertebrae carry most of our vertical/sitting weight and age and occupation make a difference. If your discs are bulging, they may be fixed with partial discectomy but if they are flattened it may take surgery to remove them and spinal fusion to prevent pain. Too bad discs can't be replaced by Teflon substitutes and must be spaced to prevent vertebrae from pinching nerves.
Hopefully you will get a good diagnosis today! Pat P.

Gary, nice photos! Thanks for sharing.
Here's some more info on the South Dakota Air & Space Museum located with Ellsworth AFB.

Ellsworth Air Force Base

The Museum website is limited in content, but they get a lot of visitors with FREE admission and the Museums History covers a lot of Ellsworth AFB covers a lot of geographic area in other states with missile silos.

I think the Museum was supposed to get a F-106 Cockpit Trainer display, but I think AMARG sent it to another Air Museum project. I'll have to research that. Thanks, Pat P.

While I was researching the above, I ran across this project by Dave Peltz (now deceased). Some of our F-106 Forum Members did some great restoration work on this Mobile F-106B display before Dave passed away. Read the info at the top of this page to see our Forum Member's names. I don't know the current status of the project or what Mrs. Peltz plans to do with it.

SR-71 on left, YF-12 on right. Until the so-called "YF-12C" enters the discussion... until the SR was declassified, after 934 and 935 were lost the AF lent NASA an unmodified early SR, redesignated "YF-12C" with fake serial "60-6937" (which was a CIA A-12 serial). 934's back half was later spliced with the front half of the SR Structural Engineering Mockup to create the SR-71C, tail number 981 and popularly called "The Bastard." (A favorite among crews because all the power but less weight made for better performance.) Somehow the chopped chines (that straight-line leading edge is dead even with the rear of the radome) reduced directional stability, so the YF-12As also had a folding ventral fin kind of like a MiG-23; for the planned production F-12B they found a way to design a composite chine that wouldn't mess with the radar so the fin could be deleted.
