The best assignment I ever had is in bold, I tried several times to get back to the Griff but they closed it before it could happen. It's funny in a way , I left Griffiss and the shop was under manned, I arrive at Luke and there were so many airman there we had to fight to get a job. Just doesn't make sense I guess I should have kept my mouth shut about what a great assignment it was

That's quite a rundown Jim. You sure had a full career. So you don't think you would have enjoyed Turkey? Sand, sun, and maybe alittle fun? My son-in-law works , maintains, & instructs on C-17's. He has been to Turkey several times passing through as inflight maintenance technician. He said its not a bad place and very interesting. Likely very different if you are stationed there. I've never been to that part of the world so I have no idea what its like. Just saw all his photo's. Thanks for your long military service.

David Slaughter 43171, 45271, 4756 OMS Tyndall AFB '73 - '78, Sometime around '76-77 we became 475 EMS. I was a F106 Dock Member. Then Uncle Sam decided I had spent too much time on the beach and sent me to Det 1-49 FIS, Loring AFB, '78 - '81. It was 70 degrees when I flew out of Panama City, Fl. and minus 20 degrees when I stepped off the plane in Presque Isle, Me. Later I was sent to Bitburg AB, Germany '81-'84 (F-15 C&D) nice birds but they don't compare to the beauty of the SIX in flight. I never got to work on a SIX again after I left Loring. After Germany I went to Reece AFB, Lubbock, TX. Got to work on the T-38 there from '84-'89. From there I went to Langley AFB, Va. and back to the F15C and D. During my time there I got to go play in the biggest cat box in the world, thanks to Saddam Hussein. Saudi Arabia is quite a place, miles and miles of beach but its a long long long way to the water. I retired in '93 and almost regret doing so. I don't miss all the politics and BS but I sure miss the commaraderie

Thanks for the welcome. I'm in Smyrna TN, retired from the 118th AW ANG last August with 10 years active duty and 24 years Air Guard. I'm a Vietnam vet, and a vet of operations Dessert Shield, Noble Eagle, Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, Southern Watch, Provide Promise, Joint Forge, Deep freeze, Volent Oak, and others. (3 trips to the dessert) Most of my time was spent working Avionics on C130's since 1969. I had 2 1/2 years with the 27th FIS working on the F106 in the early days. Our commander was known as Black Bart and he had a huge handlebar mustache. Remember those days? Click on my ribbons to link to the web site and get yours. I've got one more federal and six more state ribbons, but the site can only handle a total of 24 currently. Virgil Virgil Flaherty 32551 27th FIS Loring 1967-69 Welcome to our hangar Virgil!
