Welcome back Bob! I see it's been awhile since your last visit. The Texas Squadron of www.f-106deltadart.com has to show everyone how it's done here! Did you get any of the snow we sent your way today? Mark

Mark O, Thanks and Merry Christmas to you and yours. No snow yet here in Dallas. It has been cool though in the low 40s, overcast and misting all day. It has been a while, I got a pm from an old friend from the 48th FIS in June. I need to check in here more often.

You bet ya need to check in! Always something going on around here!
Our current trend is to change topic subjects into something completely different -- like an AFSC topic into...

You know, I was thumbing through some old posts, and realized I never posted my info in this "AFSC" thread. That Army number/letter combo was my MOS - Military Occupation Specialty.

93-2000 - US Army National Guard 98C2P (Sergeant E-5) - 5th Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group, Colorado ARNG
2000-2003 - USAF Air National Guard 2A551 (SSgt) - KC-135E/R Crew Chief (134th ARW, Tennessee ANG, 121st ARW, Ohio ANG)

I figured I better change this line over to this thread out of respect for our fallen. When I went to join the AF, I was guaranteed a job in electronics. I did well on all my entry tests. I had an uncle in USAF, an F-102 pilot at the time. He told me Avionics were the way to go. So when we were about finished with Basic Part 1 at Lackland I went to my assignment briefing. I was given Defensive Fire Control School at Lowry. I was upset. I was promised electronics but was being assigned to Fireman school. Well, the guy was nice and didn't get too upset with me and explained that Offensive Fire Control was Avionics on bomber and Defensive Fire Control was on fighters. Duh........ That is pretty funny! I was similarly ignorant when I selected my job for the Army. I chose "Electronic Warfare Signal Intelligence Analyst." I originally thought I would analyze radio "signals" meaning the cycle (hertz), power, strength, etc. You know - electronics! I chose the job because it sounded cool, but most importantly you could go to jump school (parachutist) by taking that job. (When I joined the Army only certain jobs had slots for parachutists. A few years later they let anyone go if you qualified.) Anyway, the whole "radio" idea lasted about 30 minutes. I figured it out when the guy at the AFEES (later MEPS) station told me I had to take a test. The test was to determine if you had an aptitude for figuring out communication networks! (I passed!) (Me) "Oh. This is intelligence work, not electronics, or radio work!" Duh!
