I'm glad I got to meet him when I went to Hughes - Canoga Park on the receiver mod. I'm also very happy to have met you -FINALLY!- at the 456th reunion! A COLD beer for ya! MArv

Hey guys! I'm still plugging along over here in the desert. Thought I'd send a recent photo. This is me holding up the tail of one of our Herks during a visit to Afghanistan about three weeks ago. I do have some interesting news in the F-106 world too. We all know how small of a world it is. Over here we deploy for 4 months at a time and since we have more crews than space for them all - well, pilots anyway, we rotate a few out at the two-month point. So I just got a new pilot and co-pilot. Turns out the father of my new co-pilot is a retired USAF pilot and former F-106 driver!!! I just casually asked my co what his dad flew when he mentioned he was retired and WOW! How about that? And of course I don't have his name right now (I think my co went to dinner) but the co-pilot's name is Josh Becker. Josh remembers his dad flew Sixes with the 49th FIS up to about 1983 then flew them in San Antonio at the ALC. He thinks he flew them with another unit prior to the 49th but can't recall which one as he himself wasn't born until 1983! (The year I came in the service!) I didn't see a Becker on the 49th alumni page but when I see my co next I'lll ask for more details and tell him to tell his dad about this site of course. More to follow I hope! Mark (Oh, here's that photo of me!)

Mark, I can see a t-shirt with this picture and a caption that says: I went to Afghanistan and all I got was this piece of tail Seriously, that's one fine tail flash design! Come home safely Pat (Oh, here's that photo of me!)

Hey 49th guys. I finally found out the name of my co-pilot's dad who flew Sixes with the 49th in the early '80s. His name is Pete Becker and my co- said his dad would have been a Captain at that time.
Anyone remember him?
Mark

Name sounds familiar, tho I didn't usually hobnob with the pilots. I met a few during the maintenance meetings, but not many.
On a side note, I'm headed up to Wisconsin tomorrow to visit an old friend that some of you might know/remember.
George Laubmeier, MA-1 and then later, the Mock-Up. I'm taking my camera so I'll get some pics to post when we get home.

I agree with Lindel name does sound familiar, I will have to check some of my old TDY orders (yep, keep 4 copies of each TDY, PCS I ever went on) I left in 1981 to go to Luke. Now just have to find the box with the paperwork.....

A-10 --- Wheels up landing during emergency ---- This was designed in case of battle damage and the gear could not be lowered. The aircraft could land with wheels up , with just a little of the tires sticking out, like a turtle when it pulls into its shell. Wheel chocks -- Used forever for many different things. Wheel chocking the A-10 with wheels up still needed.
