My daughter and her husband just relocated to Dover AFB, DE from McChord AFB, WA. They work, maintain, and instruct on the C-17 and its systems. Son-in-law is instructing and my daughter is a jet engine technician. Just like her Dad was! It's an awesome aircraft. Onboard ECM and the pilots fly it with a fighter stick, not an aircraft yoke. Only needs a crew of three. Pilot, co-pilot, and only one loadmaster. <a href="http://img519.imageshack.us/my.php?image=doverafb013eh6.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/5314/doverafb013eh6.th.jpg" border="0" alt="Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us" /></a> <a href="http://img386.imageshack.us/my.php?image=doverafb014fc0.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img386.imageshack.us/img386/6107/doverafb014fc0.th.jpg" border="0" alt="Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us" /></a> MY daughter is the one walking on the right side. <a href="http://img519.imageshack.us/my.php?image=doverafb007rs7.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/4138/doverafb007rs7.th.jpg" border="0" alt="Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us" /></a>

I miss seeing that mountain on clear days which were rare, but memorable. Lived in Spanaway.

I sure miss seeing that nice old mountain popping out of the clouds at McChord. I was C-130 Simulator Branch Chief and had a huge office with double corner windows to view the mountain. Sim shop was near both Base and Wing Commander's housing. They both toured Simulator and both wanted my office.

i watched the sun come up from behind the mountain for 10 years( '84-'94) while on grave shift, and if there was a colorful sunset, you could watch the snow turn different shades of pink and red. my office was 1000 ft from the active at the north end of the field. the hammerhead was across from the ATOC ( air terminal ops center). before the eagles came, a pair of sixes would be winding up for a full AB takeoff early, most mornings.. very loud and very beautiful... was a ground loadmaster at the aerial port from '82 to 2011... 0n the 17 from '99 to 2011.
