You can question all you want. Unless you were there doing the guarding you don't have first had knowledge. I have no reason to suspect he would lie about such a thing even though he almost never talked about it according to his family , he saw things that disturbed him greatly. My cousin was in Nam and died of Agent Orange. He told me stories of VC being put in ROK choppers and being questioned. If they failed to answer they were pushed out at few thousand feet. WWII German POWs were housed in different countries, not just England. Terrorist are held in Cuba and other places. Its highly likely VC were ship to camps outside Vietnam. There was AG at Chanute and the 900 area was mentioned. I read about it. There are dozens of super fund sights around the nation that are being cleaned up or on a wait list for funding. Resent study has just linked jet fuel, hydro fluid, jet engine oil, and cleaning solvents to bad medical conditions. Information is slow to come out of the government. You better not believe everything the government tells you.

Gary, I mean no disrespect towards you or your brother in law. I pray he can recover, or have minimum pain and suffering. But I have heard many people, even military tell tales of combat. But lets look at the facts. He is 59 years old now. The last troops left Viet Nam March 29, 1973. The minimum age for joining the Military is 17. Figure basic and secondary training would consume almost a year. Being 59 he would have been born in 1957 if my math is correct. Add 17 (Minimum age to join military) to that would be 1974. Add some time for basic training and combat training and we are more than full year after the end of combat troops in Viet Nam before he could have been stationed there. All records also show that the Agent Orange spraying ended in 1971. Many of us have been stationed on Okinawa or Guam. But have never heard of POW Camps there. Your brother in law's DD214 would show his service in SEA and he would also have been awarded Medals/Awards for being. "The last official spray run by the US Air Force took place on January 7, 1971. South Vietnamese forces continued to spray the remaining stocks of Agent Blue and White throughout 1971 and 1972. In September 1971, the order came to gather all the remaining stocks of Agent Orange, including those under the control of the Armed Forces of South Vietnam. In an operation code-named "Pacer IVY," the remaining barrels of Agent Orange were re-barreled at Da Nang, Bien Hoa and Tuy Hoa airbases and shipped to Johnston’s Island in the South Pacific. Stocks of Agent Orange in the US were shipped and stored at the Seabees base in Gulfport, Mississippi. Some 8.6 million liters of Agent Orange were destroyed by an incinerator ship in September 1977, in “Operation Pacer Ho.”" Early in Viet Nam conflict the US and South Viet Nam made Plans for the treatment and confinement of North Viet Nam soldiers, Viet Cong and sympathizers. After questioning by US they were turned over to South Viet Nam for confinement. We did have Military Advisers assigned to their Prison Camps. The link is statistics for POW Camps. As just a matter of fact, they weren't called POW Camps as South did not consider them POW, but criminals. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisoner-of-war_camp#South_Vietnamese_Army_camps_in_South_VietnamI to was stationed at Chanute. I was there 2 Jan 1971 to June 1973. First as student then as an instructor. I have read some claims that Agent Orange was used there, but I posted the facts earlier. Just no proof that it occurred.

Mark, I just asked Belinda how old her younger brother is. I guess I got the year wrong. He is 59 years old. War ended in 73 and who knows how long the POW exchanges took. Thanks Gary -- and everyone else -- for educating me. Sorry that I was out of the loop over the weekend. I had a first date all weekend with a very nice lady about 2.5 hours from Del Rio, and my mind was obviously elsewhere. Just got back home a bit ago, and have been catching up on the posts. Mark O

Well, say whatever and dig up whatever. You think our government always tells the public everything all the time. If you believe the government tells us everything then you have your head in the sand. Yes, we all have genes of DNA that make us predisposed to things. Just needs the trigger. I've just repeated what I was told 3rd had of my brother-in-laws service. He has to many medical issue. I have a close friend that flew C-130's and other aircraft that were used in Nam. He has cancer in his blood. The pilots were told those aircraft were safe and completely treated and free od AO. Which is BS. I read what a government employee stated to that he sprayed AO to kill weeds and whatever around Chanute AFB during that time period. We will never be given the total history and truth from the government. No disrespect is taken by me. As for this thread ,

Gary, The C-130 was used extensively in Viet Nam. We had both cargo and Gunship models there. The AC-130A was the first C-130 gunship and I believe it was first used in 1967-68 time frame. But the UC-123 was the only bird used in the Agent Orange spray missions. The C-130 now has the mission for spraying using a modular spray system. It is a roll on and attach system that can be deployed quickly. The USAF Reserve unit in Youngstown Ohio has that as a primary roll. They spray insecticides for insect control as well as vegetation control and even fire fighting. I worked for 3 months TDY in early 1967 from Tyndall to a test program in Laos for a C-130 gunship with sensors and a guided gun system. The early AC-130 A aircraft had a fixed gun system and was aimed by pilot using and optical sight in cockpit. Our test was very successful and became "Operation Surprise" the following year as I recall.

Dog woke me up about 4:30AM. Usually have trouble getting back to sleep so decided to stay up and have breakfast & relax. Its going to be a stressfilled day as today is my wife's knee replacement surgery. She will likely be in Harrison Hospital (Silverdale, WA) until Friday. Prayers are requested. I'll be taking her to the hospital in a few hours.
Been having some good weather lately. Its a shame Belinda is going to be laid up for quite awhile (few months anyway). Her pains have been so bad that she has been having to take more pain medications which she does not like too do. Her ortho surgeon told us that there are new medical guide lines coming in the future. For things like this and other major surgeries there will be stiff guidelines and restrictions. A persons age, weight, and other medical issues will play a part to see if you will receive major expensive surgeries. So, if you, a loved one, relative, or close friend have been putting off an operation for a medical issue you should think about getting it over with, because in the future you could be rejected. This is likely part of the Obummer Healthcare plan.

My neighbor the dairy farmer was gored by a 1,800 pound bull. Lots of injuries and was in bed for almost a month with legs supported and pins in his ankle. He is now getting around using his lawn mower. Can't drive yet and his ATV is getting repaired. That must have been frightening. His name is Mr. Bishop so if you would like to pray for his recovery that would be nice. No matter how bad we have it others have it worse.

I saw neurosurgeon yesterday to schedule my surgery. They will fuse my left SI joint (Sacroiliac Fusion) with three triangular shaped pins on 30 August. Doc said he can do other side after 3 months of recovery. He said pain will be bad for about a month as it heals. si-bone.com/patients/ifuse-implant-system/Lorin

As you have heard before Belinda was too get her knee replaced again as another surgeon mest it up almost a year ago. We were told in April by Madigan Army medical center that her surgeon had hurt his wrist and would not be doing surgeries until June. We selected a surgery time in the middle of June and was told we would be given the exact date soon . So at the end of April we flew on a KC-135 to Mildenhall to visit our Daughter's family. I sent several e-mails to Madigan while we were gone and never got a response back. Even sent a certified return receipt letter to the hospital that was refused. At the end of our trip which was 5 1/2 weeks we flew home on another KC-135 and got home June 3rd expecting a message in our mail or message on our phone maching about the surgery date. We had been assured by Madigan that after the surgeon's wrist healed her surgern would be mid June. We contacted Madigan and was told that they were not going to do knee revision surgeries Fixing knees that had been replaced before) anymore. I was pissed because for 5 1/2 weeks we heard nothing. I contacted my Senator and she got involved. Then the word was that the surgeon would do Belinda's knee in a month or two after he took care of some active duty troops. I'm good with that as active duty does come first. Over a month passed and no word again. Called the hostital and just just got an excuse so I called the Patient Rep and complained. He said he would have the woman call us. She never did. Two days later I called him back and he said he was sending someone to check on it and they would call. This lady called and said the woman that schedules the knee surgeries would call us. She did not. Called this lady back and she went down again and told us that woman said she has not had a chance to talk to the doctor. Same thing happened the next day. I've had to cancel and put of yard work just sitting and waiting on this lazy woman for 2 days. I'm now into the 3rd day of the same crap. If don't get a date today I'll call the Paitent Rep again and my congressman. I keep remembering all those Veterans that waited and waited for appointments at VA hospitals and many died waiting. I know how they felt waiting. I'm a fighter and don't let people run over us like this. Not afraid to start a Congressional or sentatorial Investigation. This woman scheduler I don't think could handle a Walmart greeter job.
Sorry for my rant.

Sounds like now they might be extracting vengeance....... However, when promises made by supposedly reputable people, are broken by those same people, repeatedly, then they need hammering with a big hammer. This is why a civilian run military has now become a detriment rather than a benefit. Take the gloves off now

Sorry for my rant. Gary, The surgeon you want to do Belinda's replacement of a replacement knee injured his wrist and was not able to do his surgeries for a couple months? Probably has a big backlog. It's also summer and many folks like to take vacations and that results in reduced capabilities. In my experience dealing with the schedulers of the surgical suites, that is where the delays occur, They have limited suites and you have said that her surgery could take 10-12 hours. That is a whole day for a single suite. The scheduler has to also match the surgeons schedule, a whole day is hard to schedule. I agree it makes for concern on your part, but her calling to say she has nothing to report takes time away from her work as well. it also involves a whole team of others...nurses, assistant surgeon, the guy keeping her asleep etc. I have been in surgery for my bladder (8 times) my SI Joint fusion and my knee replacement all in last 4 years. Each time the doctor said he had to coordinate with scheduler. Not his people, but the hospital surgical suite scheduler. She also has to figure out how to set up a full day as well as work with surgeon. In my experience both are scheduled weeks if not months in advance. So I agree it's frustrating for you and Belinda, but it involves a lot. PS I guess I have a different perspective on hitting out with more political calls. After a blotched job by an experienced Surgeon I wouldn't want to piss off the only doctor around with experience in doing a replacement of a replacement knee. Good luck Lorin Good luck, try understanding all that's involved.
