Was is a display bird, or just a transient on the flight line? Was there any unit markings? The closest F-106 serial number to "3788" that I can find is 58-0788, and that's stretching it! www.convairf-106deltadart.com/580788Page.htmlWas that the entire tail number you saw? Four number tail numbers weren't used very much, if at all from my research. There was a 53-0788 which I suppose could have been painted as 3788, but that was an F-86D so there is no chance that would be mistaken for a Convair Delta! I checked everything from 1951 to 1959 and there was nothing ending in 3788 that is even close to an F-102 or an F-106. Curious... Edit - Officially the only F-106 on display at Andrews was 57-2523 (a B-model) which is now up at Atlantic City IAP. www.convairf-106deltadart.com/57252306Large.htmlwww.convairf-106deltadart.com/572523Page.html

first episode of the series...modern times... it was either a 6 or a duce... a mod. ...it was behind a fence... there was a small sign indicating andrews flightline...it had FC-78 U.S. AIRFORCE on the fuselage behind cockpit... i just reran it and the tail was 31788...it looks like it had an ANG decal on top of the tail... this is a pretty good series with clair danes...showtime on demand..just watched 5 episodes in a row... almost outof beer...and the chips are getting low...

That helps a bunch! 53-1788 is an F-102!! 1788 at Florence (SC) Air and Missile Museum. This museum has now closed. Plane transferred to Carolinas Aviation Museum, Charlotte, NC.It's actually a pretty rare Duece, as it was one of the first YF-102As. The second YF-102A built from serial number block 53-1787-1790 in fact. The ANG markings are spurious for display purpose only. www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?regsearch=53-1788Mark Edit - Was the Charlotte, NC location used as a "stand in" for Andrews for the purpose of the movie? That's not unusual.

Is that an AIM-4D on the launcher? Didn't know the 6 carried the -4D.

Don, my apologies again for missing you. Woulda been a privilege to pick your brain, learn from a BTDT and hear any old war stories you might've been up for sharing. :yellow-beer

Diamondback
I sorry that I missed you also and the Air Show, but my 50th High School reunion was the same day up in Washington. But I will be back out your way as I still have an Aunt near Santa Rosa. Then we can share stories over a few cold ones.

PCAM's hours are Tues,Thurs,Sat & Sun 10-4. I'm there Tues & Thurs, but if you let me know ahead of time I can probably get out there and show you guys around.

To all of you guys that travel our country, try to take the time to find a sixer in the vicinity of where you are going thru and make an effort to make contact him, have lunch or even spend a night with him if he extends the invite... For you guys stationed in WA., there are enough of you that you could hold your own SIX reunion-perhaps in memory of Steve.... In addition to the 456th reunion guys that I met at Colorado Springs, I have met over 20 sixers over the past 5 years... Some even tolerated me for over night.. (a couple of them - 2 different times) BTW, our house is always open for you to stop by, go eat, or spend the night and eat as well...... Also please go back to your profile in fill in the Location section so that we can use that as a planning guide.... You guys in WA, I believe there are 5 or six of you- go down to McChord and see Ernie's Six and have a little get together- time is running out for all of us..... The Old Sarge
