Gary, Wife and I were at McChord form 1980-1983. We loved the place and actually thought of taking a reassignment back to McChord. I was considered surplus when I left as a Senior since there was a Chief in place. But I elected to retire instead of PCS'ing again. I was at WPAFB and 30 miles from my Mom and family. So I have been happy with my decision, but after hearing all the "war" stories about the radical Left on the west coast, and even WA that makes me look back with glee that I did not go back. Sorry that you have to live with the seemingly ignorant folks who practice Socialism what ever the Progressive are currently doing. PS Gary. Since I was a Internet Security Engineer I was well versed on HIPPA. It is not a violation for you to provide the information they request. I know it sounds terrible but HIPPA is to protect you from someone else releasing your data...But the business to require you to wear a mask, or show Proof of vaccination is not protected by HIPPA. The business should be boycotted for it's demand's. Lorin

When you go to the Doc and fill out tons of forms, you are protecting the doctors from disclosing any info about your medical condition unless you consent to it. Most of us allow our spouse, family, or Primary Care Physician to be informed. The problem we have today is that everyone has become "self-entitled" to see our Covid shot cards because we have no consistent leadership making decisions. Personally I don't care if they want to see them or not because I have them on my cell phone as pictures and I always mask and distance when walking into a public place restaurant, grocery store, etc. If it makes people feel safer, I'm good with that. I won't tolerate or engage in conversation a maskless citizen stepping into my face to call me a "candy ass" for wearing a mask. Our Congress makes the laws in our Republic and we have too many Legislators allowing citizens to change them via law suit to suit their protected class rather than all citizens of America. Biden is on his way out based on his rapidly dropping poll numbers. We just have to be prepared for whoever replaces him.
Here are the HIPAA laws from HIPAA PRIVACY LAWS www.hipaaguide.net/hipaa-privacy-laws/
Objectives of HIPAA Privacy Laws
HIPAA privacy laws were introduced in 2002 with the goal of ensuring the privacy of patients’ medical data without hampering the exchange of patient data required to provide medical services to patients. The HIPAA privacy laws regulate who can access Protected Health Information (PHI), the terms under which it can be utilized, and to whom it can be shared with.
The HIPAA privacy laws are not just applicable to healthcare companies and organizations. The laws are also applicable to any entity that a HIPAA-covered entity authorizes to access patients’ healthcare data (termed business associates under HIPAA)
HIPAA privacy laws ensure that patient data cannot be accessed by unauthorized individuals. Patients must give their consent before their personal health information is shared for reasons other than treatment, payment for healthcare services, or use for healthcare operations, and patients also have the right to obtain copies of their health data.
Data Protected by HIPAA Privacy Laws The data secured by HIPAA privacy laws is referred to as Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Protected Health Information (PHI) – Information that could expose a patient´s identity such as:
Information about the patient’s past, current or future mental or physical condition
Information relating to medical treatment and medical services provided to the patient
Information about past, current, or future payments for healthcare services
Individually identifiable health information is not restricted to information like names, birth dates, Social Security numbers, and phone numbers, but also credit card details, car registration numbers and even specimens of a patient’s handwriting.
HIPAA privacy laws apply to written information and electronic information, even photographs and videos. If, for instance, a healthcare company took a photograph of a patient’s wound and the patient’s identity can be determined from distinguishing features – a tattoo or birthmark for instance – the photograph would be covered and protected by HIPAA privacy laws.
The HIPAA privacy laws regarding PHI are applicable to each covered entity and each third party service provider or Business Associate that the covered entity does business with. PHI disclosure for reasons of treatment, healthcare operations or payment should be restricted between a covered entity or Business Associate – except if the disclosure is mandated by law or if the disclosure is in the best interests of the public or the patient.
Even when disclosures of PHI are permitted by the HIPAA Privacy Rule, sharing of PHI must be limited to the minimum necessary amount to achieve the purpose for which the information is disclosed. Every request for disclosure of PHI ought to be evaluated on a case-to-case basis. It is not permitted to give PHI access to a Business Associate because they were permitted access in the past.
Unauthorized PHI Disclosures Every covered entity needs to implement safety measures to avoid unauthorized PHI disclosures. These safety measures will differ based upon the covered entity’s size and the nature of medical care provided. The fines for the failure to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of PHI are substantial. Healthcare companies that intentionally or negligently disclose PHI, in violation of HIPAA privacy laws, could be penalized as much as $50,000 per instance up to a maximum of $1.5 million, per violation category, per year.
As detailed on the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights breach portal, the most frequent causes of unauthorized PHI disclosure are the loss or theft of portable devices such as USB flash drives, laptops and smartphones, and hacking incidents.
One of the best ways of avoiding these privacy breaches is the use of encryption. Encryption renders PHI indecipherable unless the key to decrypt the PHI is also compromised. Encryption is not mandatory under HIPAA, but it is recommended. If encryption is not used, alternative measures must be implemented to safeguard ePHI that provide an equivalent level of protection as encryption.

WE have a new woman health director for our county and the county west of us. She is just showing her power right off the get go. These two counties are the only ones doing this. The county just 10 minutes east of us does not have this bullshit yet. People who bend over and except all this will cause our frights to be lost slowly one by one. Thank God that in the mid 1770's people stood up against power hungry government. Gary

Gary, Our local VA Hospital Clinic suffered a flood a year ago while new facility was being constructed. The flood waters ruined about 6 inch of sheetrock throughout the building. So repairs were made starting with removing about 10-12 inch of sheetrock. Innocent enough, but Clinic got a HIPPA violation because the missing sheetrock allowed persons in one exam room from hearing Doctors in next room. So they had to close every other exam room until repairs were finished. One HIPPA issue was that I as a Data Administrator had access to all data stored in system. Well at WPAFB the base hospital solved the problem by spending over $10 million on stand alone computer systems. They even had their own data staff to maintain privacy. I never figured out how their Admins were OK, but I was not. I had a TS Clearance and was Certifies Info Security Engineer...OH well. Gas was down to $2.85 Weds, but jumped back to $3.15 on Thursday PM to gouge the folks that live payday to payday and have to wait on paycheck to fill up for next week. Wife and I are finishing our quarantine tomorrow. Our son and granddaughter came down with Virus last Fri. Wife and I spent several hours with them , but we tested neg Weds, but we still had 7 day quarantine. Lorin

Well, Belinda and I traveled through 13 states and covered 6,407 miles on our month long vacation. Through these 13 states we saw very few folks using masks and people coming in and out of businesses not using masks. We were never asked about a mask. Now that we are back home in WA State in our county a new female health director has decided we all must use masks inside any building. Also to eat in any business you must show a covid shot card. In 1979/80 I visited communist East Berlin and there was this sadness on the faces of the people and the look of dread. It sort of effected you if you were there during the time of the Berlin wall & Check-Point-Charlie. Our government is now trying to force folks to get shot or be banned from employment. How is this possible or right in a free nation. Are we really free anymore./ I'm starting to get that feeling here in my WA State County of Jefferson.

Well wife and I are finally taking a few days off. Tomorrow we are going over to Wheeling "West By God" Virginia. We have reservations at the Casino there and will gamble a little and see a couple sights as well. Thursday we head up to the Mountaineer Casino also in WV. Same schedule there. Friday we are coming back to Ohio and visiting Amish Country around the Berlin OH area. We have been there several times over the year ands a lot of good food, shopping and sight seeing. It has the largest Amish area in Ohio. We have another one just North of us, but not organized like in Berlin area. We may drop by and visit my daughter and her family in Akron while we are in area. They are still over an hours drive away (Three from here). I just updated my GPS so we have latest maps and traffic signals. My next car will hopefully have built in Nav System. But my 2015 Honda Accord only has 50,000 miles so no hurray. Wife's 20114 CRV only has 35,000 so she doesn't need one, but her best friend just got a new CRV. They had to wait almost a month and ended up getting one from another dealer instead of waiting on Production. Their CRV was built, but is sitting awaiting some "Chips" before it can be sold. Gas has gone back up to $2.90, I filled up for the trip. Lorin

Sounds like a nice reunion with your old friend Gary. We need good things in our life. I just got home from WPAFB Hospital. I had surgery to fuse my right SI Joint. Had a crowd in Operating room as several people were there to view new procedure. I was scheduled for an hour, but it took over 2 hours. I saw surgeon after, but due to other things I wasn't able to discuss it, except he said things were great. When he came by the recovery room team were addressing a rash I developed after surgery. They gave me three shots over 45 minutes and the rash disappeared. Head nurse asked surgeon if the Donor Tissue used to help fuse the screws and bones could have caused it. Doc said no, but Doctor treating it said it was very possible, but unless it returns not to worry. Since coming home I have gone up and down stairs three times with very little discomfort. I have slight pains when putting weight on leg, but much better than before. I am on restricted movement for next month, nothing over 5-10 pounds, no twisting at waist, controlled bending etc. But I am over it, some of my lower back pain will go away, and I will be able to walk longer distances without the pain from putting weight on leg. So, I am happy it's over and cannot say enough how great the whole team was at WPAFB Hospital. Had another freeze overnight and I had to scrap windows before driving to hospital at 0515 this morning. Wife went along nd kept me company before and after surgery.. Shows a love of over 50 years of wedded bless. Take care and enjoy your visits Gary. We all like to hear good thing about life. Lorin

So glad to get the news on your surgery out come. Do not do anything that could cause a compulcation. Get lots of rest.
My wife had her ankle replaced, both knees replaced (one had to be redone), gallbladder removed, and back surgery.

Leaving San Antonio today. Been here for 10 days. Four days were to attend a USAF reunion (F-106 All Troops). Had lots of fun at the reunion and around San Antonio, even went out to Lackland AFB. The place has changed so much, but I founf the old Chapel I went to and saw the 1,000 man dorms. They have built new dorms and building more. I did not really know the place anymore. We went and visited may places including Lackland, river-walk, several military museums in Fredericksburg, botanical gardens, and had dinner one evening in the "Tower of Americas". San Antonio is one clean & spotless city. Many cleaning crews working around, Lots of Police, and even a Police river patrol. They have a skimmer that clears the floating leaves off the river. Lots of cities in the USA could learn from here. They never allowed BLM or Antifa to riot & loot; and they never went in for the defunding police crap either. Seems all the cities that are liberal and run by democrats have went to hell. Anyway sharing a few pictures.
