The nose wheel well seems biggeer than I remember. I must be thinking how tight it was doing a battery change in the winter, all bundled up like Ralph's little brother in "a Christmas Story".

Things that I remember in the nose wheel well. 823,646 IR Selector Valve, Air Ducts to Radar and Computer Racks, Battery and Charger, the Hdy valve to raise and lower the NG. The 823 was used on round eyes, I don't remember the box for the Vertical, it set on the left side forward and had 8 or 9 plugs. Bear MA-1

I remember the IR selector valve. The picture I posted of 57-0244 taking off has the IR head up. It had an air leak so it need to stay up.

You are right about the tightness of the nosewheel wel. I was pretty skinny back then and I noticed a big change in the winter garb when swapping out canopy and main batts. {cc790}

Hi all, Thanks for the Birthday wishes! Bullhunter, you just earned another exalt for those great pictures of McChord and the nose wheel well pics. I remember at Castle in winter 1967 at 0100 hours replacing a ECI sensor for MA-1. It was 19 degrees and had to take off my field jacket to get in the NWW. It was one of those "wet" cold nights with some wind that leaves you shivering for three days afterwards. Back at the barracks it took a few glasses of Haig & Haig Pinch scotch to warm up. Boy, that McChord is a beautiful place! On a clear day we could see the mountains from Castle but that central valley is flat as a board. Pat P.

I a thread somewhere there was talk about boxes in the nose wheel well. I said I'd get photo's on one of my trips there to the McChord Museum. So here thery are. Sorry I can't find the thread. I anyone recalls which thread maybe someone can move this post over to it, Bull that was me. You had mentioned you were going to the museum and I asked you to see if the SCABU was still in the nose wheel well. Couldn't see it in your photos, but interesting just the same. I'm amazed there is still so much stuff in there. Looked to be a pre-PUP bird.

In the first picture as you look at nose gear on the rt side is the upper and lower for hdy actuator. Just forward of that is a cly used to close the gear door.

Third picture from the top. Theres two panels removed. To the right of those two panels are two small cylinders. They almost look like acumulaters.

Believe the two holes are actually where the MA-1 air ducts attached to the radar and computer bays. I always thought those two things to the right were some kind of desecant or dryer. :confused Second photo from the top just to the right of the meters and before the breaker panel I believe you can see the cannon plug where we attached the Nose Wheel Well cheat switch to simulated the door being closed.

The two holes were for the cooling duct to the Radar and Computer racks. The other plug hooked to SCABU FDT box Where we put a jumper plug with switch so you could run MSR or ATTS WSEM by yourself.

When did were the circiut breaker panels modified? I remember a couple tails still had fuses. They had a red spike sticking out if they were popped.
I assume the CB panels were put in during PDM. Just curious what time frame the mod started.

Beleive it was early to Mid-70's during the MA-1 power upgrade (PUP) mod. There's a thread in here somewhere where it was talked over at length. :salute

Does anyone know if a B model was capable of having a belly gun installed?

Don't know of any reason why not....Everything from the front edge of the baydoors aft is identical to the A model, so what ever mod was done on the A would also work on the B............ Ask Ralph at Castle, they have the gun there...................The Old Sarge

Okay, we know the gun was installed only on A-models with vertical tape instruments, and no B-models had vertical tape, so does that have anything to do with it? Which begs the question, why the gun just on the vertical tape instrumented aircraft? Thanks! Mark
