Hi guys don't know if this is still an active subject or not..but hampton air and space museum has an F106Bravo hanging from the rafters...she was used in lightning research and all they did was add some lifting eye's and defueled the tanks...raised the landing gear and lifted it up into the rafters ...I was there back then and we were friends of the lady that ran the museum...langley research just turned it over to the museum and it still has all of the avionic's/engine/racks..etc still in it... www.vasc.org/exhibits/aircraft/convair.htmlmight wanna call the museum to ask someone about it... Thanks guys...this is really a great site....I feel like I've finally found a place where people understand what I've experienced with the F106's.....when you tell people you were involved with the "6"...they look at you like your from another planet....always amazes me...guess I'm old..

one of my stories was on the huey we had at Grand Forks.(hope you don't mind me jumping in so fast)...but I got selected to fly jafo in the back seat of a huey for a missile convoy..(My office was in the same hanger as the helo crews ops office was located so I got to talk to them alot)... well....at that age one of my favorite lunch items was hotdogs, chips and a 7up drink..so..off to the bowling alley for a quick lunch..push time was 1:30 pm for the convoy and we had to be airborne by 1pm....met up with the crew...they briefed me at 12:45 and off to the bird we go....airborne and in a hold until the missile is released for travel by the Base commander.. while in the holding pattern outside the base I find out I don't like to go around in circles....I quickly asked for a couple of sick bags and the next thing I know I'm hurling my combat boots and lunch up into 2 bags...yes...I became known in the sqdn as 2bagger..... well...it seems my pilot was fresh from nam and was still flying aggressively as he was in Nam....which by the way caused me to loose everything in my stomach including my combat boot strings!!...I think they were hanging out of my nose when I finally got off the aircraft... after the relief helo showed up at the missile site....we left for a straight line for the base...
it took me about 20 yrs to finally eat a hotdog....I still can't stand the smell of a 7up.......

Howdy and hallucinations!!... I just found you guys and really glad to find you...I was involved with the "6" right out of tech school and stationed at Hamilton AFB for my first pcs....I can honestly say that the "6" is still my all time favorite airplane...just no other plane even today that could do what she did.... let me introduce myself... my name is Steve and was basically a parts expediter....if the plane was down for any reason..we had virtually minutes to get it to maintenance to make the plane mission ready...if not then I'd have to go find it at any sister base around...which meant to get that part at all costs......even if it meant getting a pilot out of bed to go get it.... I was in the AF from 70-76...my last pcs was at travis AFB cal.... it's so nice to meet others that were involved in the F106 and I hope to read and meet others.... Steve
