In his book "Rupert Red Two", Col. Jack Broughton lists the jets he flew, and the bases where he flew them during his career. He closes with a great statement. "Minot, AFB. The six shined as a fighter interceptor, claimed all sorts of records, and she is the one I would like to have parked in my garage." That's a pretty good endorsement for our favorite fighter. :god_bless_usa

About 5 years ago I had reason to meet with LGen John Handywhen he was CG HQ USAF/IL. You don't just walk in on those guys, so I had retired LG Leo Marquez crack the door. When he introduced me it wasn't he's the VP of such and such, it was he was an MA-1 troop on the F-106. Handy immediately smilled and remarked, "The most complex fighter this country ever built." The meeting was suppose to last about 10 minutes. An hour later we walked out. Of course Handy got his fourth star and went on to become CG AMC and USTRANSCOM before he retired.
