oh look bullhunter, a new thread... to elaborate on this first coors story...i was newly promoted to lab chief in '75...several weeks later a new A1c pcs'ed from the p.i.... he was wearing his light blues and sportin a large blonde afro... well, out comes afr 35-10 and a story about how even though i was a civilian, i was strict about 35-10... we were in front of a lot of people and we had to make a good impression..so the weekend comes and goes and bright and early monday morning my new airman shows up with a totally bald head...out comes 35-10 and a letter of consuling...one of the classes in base level management i just completed... a few months pass and the new airman is fitting in well, the hair is growing out and he has a good attitude... one day, a friday during the afternoon clean up and beer drinking party( the det chief was a beer drinker) the subject of the legend of Coors came up. its only sold in 9 or 11 states under a limited distribution liscence because of the pasturization thing... the det chief said something about idaho being the nearest place to get it... so one evening the new airman gets invited to dinner at our house and the subject of coors comes up again.. so after a few lucky lagers a plan emerges...early saturday morning the airman, my now ex, and i take turns driving his old chevy pickup to post falls id. its a little over 300 miles one way...we took our time, saw the sights, stopped for a meal and got to post falls by early afternoon..we hit the first grocery we came to and got 6 or 7 cases..2 or 3 stores later, we are headed home.. takeing our time again.. seeing the sights, gassing up, checking the oil, etc... we get back to my house about 3 in the morning...drink a few coors and crash... its sunday morning about 11:00a.m. and we start calling around the barracks... we tell them if they want any coors to meet us in the back parking lot of the castle (bldg 100) at 4.p.m....we sell 12 cases for 12 bucks a case just like that... we made just enough to cover all expenses and still have 4 cases a piece... cause at 28 cents a gal. of gas and 5 bucks a case.... and what does 5 quarts of 30w cost...oh, those were the days i got one more coors story, but that has to wait till i do a little research...

I have no idea when Coors went public; but in Texas, where I grew up, the drinking age was 18 and I'm pretty sure that Coors (like Pearl beer) was only available in certain regions of the US (Texas being one of them). Back then the beer of choice was Lone Star longneck. But thank God those days are gone!--I did A LOT of foolish things

but hopefully they are golden memories....we all did a few foolish things in our youth...if we learned from them, well, maybe they were worth doing... p.s. i don't hear anybody dogging Lucky Lager...

p.s. i don't hear anybody dogging Lucky Lager... I have a friend in Van City that drinks it (Lucky Lager) warm. Hmmm. Personally I like Gennesse from Upstate NY. Can't get it here. Strangely I find the Mil Beast not bad. Errp, that reminds me of "Nasty Ganset" at Loring and Oly as my first brew in SEA. Real treats. Signhai. Not bad. Running Deer on the other hand was ... well an experience. ;D AJ BTW I still have a case of Billy Beer. Care to party. Edit, misspelled an.... Must be the Beast talking.

the first time i visited the oly brewery in tumwater, wa. at a leagle drinking age ('71)... the tap room was very generous with the free samples...that was one of the best beers i ever tasted. as the years went by the generosity dried up and they put a 2 drink limit.. when i was in the photo lab business, we had a lot of people coming up from vandenberg, afb, ca. a "staff assistance visit"... everyone wanted the tour...i spent a lot of time in that tap room... many years later the brewery was bought by Pearl ( thinking of you f106lady). they put out many variants, but, they closed down... in '07 i went tdy for the first time since '79...to charleston, afb. s.c...i even visited the house offbase i lived in, in '57... i was going to the aerial port expeditor class (apex) for the c-17... there i found ying ling... sounds asian...but its touted as the oldest brewery in the usa. startinging the 1600's....its a dark pale beer with a little bite...but after the first 3 or 4 12 paks i went back to bud lite... it was 90 degree weather in june and they had a pool. the craziest thing i did was to hit a large country bar while they had a "girls gone wild" film crew tapeing... gene
