The Old Sarge, Jim Gier, and his bride Sandy recently visited California in search of F-106s. Their first stop was Castle Air Museum where Ralph Robledo and his sons, Al Mueller 456th FIS and Joe Pruzzo (CAM Exec Director) rolled out the red carpet (literally). Click on picture to see the slide show Can't wait to see the rest of the pics they take at McClellan and Pac Coast museums. Pat Perry 456th FIS

and a tip o' me foine fatique cap to "CHIEF O' THE DARTS"(Ralph), Al Mueller, Joe Pruzzo and Dean and Chris Robledo for the Red Carpet welcome, complete with a sign- see Pat's pic above......It is hard to make out, BUT, my aircraft was even armed-(see armament placard) with Shamrocks!!!! The MA-1 system was locked on- to an emerald top hat and shamrock!!!! Not only was the SIX an immaculate display, as was the RED CARPET leading up to the ladder.........BUT so was the Duece with its excellent replication of the Falcon missiles- complete with fin travel stop pins!!!!!!Missed Col "Big John" Marcotte at the a/c, but did manage to visit with him and his wife twice in the hospital. The other aircraft on display reflect the same diligence, dedication and devotion to the preservation of our military heritage aircraft...........Several years ago when the 456th FIS began working to get the SIX, I contacted Pat Perry in regards to donating a clock as a fund raiser.....He took me up on it, and thus began I disagreeociation with the 456th FIS.......I even have a set of orders someplace assigning meself to the squadron PCA without PCS.....Signing authority seems to be honorable enough- "CHIEF O' THE LEPRECHAUNS",USAF RETIRED.................. The golf cart tour made it great for Sandy and I to see all of the display a/c......LeMays big bird- the RB-36 is still an amazing sight... When I started my support of various reunions, museums, etc..I had no hopes of ever meeting any of you guys- I met and married Sandy and began to plan to see some of my SIXES and the people involved in saving them.......The first one was Pat Perry when he stopped in Az on his way to his son's wedding a year ago.....Then last year we headed to Michigan by way of Ohio to deliver a grandfather clock to my son- after meetin up with Ron "THUD" Kollas, then on up to KI Sawyer where I met Lani DuQuette- (SIXSAVERXTRORDINAIRE) and stayed the night with Lee Nellist.....Leaving KI and heading for Mt Rushmore and then to Colorado Springs where I met Erv Smalley (CHIEF O' THE FACTS) and we had lunch with him in the KC-97...This made 5 Sixers that I have had the honor of meeting.......MArv Donnely gave us the honor of having him as a house guest and bring in 2008.....In Feb we stopped in San Antone where MArv gave us the great tour, the riverwalk, Lackland(I took basic at Sampson AFB,NY) and over to old Kellywhere I brought my total of 106s seen to 3....Spent 2 nights with that Old MA-1 weeenie and then on up to Pat Perrys where we were overnight guests. Now I have met 13 of you guys........We leave Castle after having been treated like royalty, and head for McCellen to meet dick Stultz and Al Durden and to get hands on another 6......We spent 2 nights with dick and Sandy( yep another Sandy has connections to the SIX) Learned to play a goofy card game called "SKIP BO" .. The most outstanding display here was the SIX, not just because it was the newest display, but because of the people who put it back together.......The duece on display has a tremendous amount of corrosion, some of it under new paint.....It seems that politically correct has hit here as they don't seem to place much importance on Military aircraft and seem to try to divert attention away from "WAR".....I also found my name on the MLG door-my name hasn't been on an A/C since early 1956!!!!!!!Dick Stultz has rescued my fund raiser clock from the museum to prevent its disappearence because of their attitude........ I have now met 15 SIXERS and have touched six displayed Sixes.........To all of you that I have met, and to those of you that are to be met in the future-Thanks for the honor and the Comaraderie.................. ::)The Old Sarge and Sandy

Well I do believe that the good Lord above has truely blessed you two. It was a pleasure to have you here with me in San antonio, and twas fantastic to be there with you two for the beginning of this wonderful year. Thanks for all the support you two have given me. I can see that the whole "6" community is really a close knit family that cares for one another no matter where we may be. You are welcome in my house anytime. That goes for all of you fellow "6"rs. And for the crew chiefs, I'll make sure the beer is cold and plentiful! Marv

Just for grins, Sandy is also my wife's name.......Erv Smalley Also, for you ADC History buffs, you may have noticed the F-106 FIS location map that Pat has graciously posted on his home page that appears when you log in. Marty Isham & I developed the history posters for the Peterson Air & Space Museum. More details can be seen at www.petemuseum.org/AircraftMaps.html (If I was better at using this forum, I'd post a photo of the posters here but I haven't figured out how to do it yet...sorry...Erv)

:-XTo the Older Sarge. It was our pleasure having you and Sandy at the Castle Air Museum. I guess that we are now a part of the Irish Air Force. My Wife is also named Sandy. I wonder how many more Wives are named Sandy . My Sons' Chris and Dean had the pleasure of meeting the Older Sarge, and we were all thrilled to see him in the Cockpit and checking out the different parts of the SIX. We got some good pictures and they are posted on the website. Last week, we taxied (towed with a YUKE) our SIX , the F100, and the F102 down by the BONEYARD fence as the MOVE OF THE CENTURY SERIES IS NOW IN PROGRESS.. We are moving the CENTURY SERIES down past the F-4 and it will be called CENTURY SERIES ROW, beginning with the F 100 and ending with the F106. Our row will also include the TF 102A. So, things continue to happen at the Castle Air Museum. Come and visit us. We can now say" Jim Gier (Pronounced GEAR) was HERE." Ralph , Dean,, Chris and Sandy Robledo
