There's something that I've been curious about with the "B" model and all the time that I was at Minot I never got around to asking the maint. guys.
Why did the main canopy on the "B" appear to be tinted? If it was a specific purpose, why not have it on the "A" models too?

Depends when you were there. The original "A" model canopy was tinted to. That was part of that whole high altitude thing.
When the bubble canopy was installed, it was clear, probably for greater visibility. The "B" however never got the bubble canopy, so it remained tinted. Black Bart

So what was the purpose for the tint and the actual color?

It was probably tinted to cut down on the UV radiation that the pilot would receive at extremely high altitudes. As I recall, it was sorta yellowish gold and you really didn't notice the tint when you were inside the jet.
This is just an uneducated guess by me; I could quite easily be wrong. I do remember, however, that when the bubble canopies first came out in 1972 that you'd see a Six flying by and think the canopy was missing when in reality it was quite fine.
