I'm sorry to say the hackers out there are getting a little too busy here in the forums, which you may have seen recently with the many junk posts.
So, I have left the Open forums Open for viewing by all, but to participate (create posts or reply to other posts) you must register as a member.
The result when just a few screw it up for all!

Hi Patrick, I'm glad you did this even though it makes it less convenient for our "drive-by" members. I removed a post by a hacker last night and left my name as the remover. Then I figured out how to delete the new thread he had started and I deleted it so he couldn't leave any "foot prints" of his previous visit. Of course I'd rather have strangled the little Bast*rd. Thanks, Pat P.

Sign of the times I guess but I fully support your decision Pat. Just this week I've got two of those frickin' e-mails about helping some poor sap get unclaimed money out of some third world country. Geez, two in a week?! I don't get more than two a year usually!
Keep up the good work!
Mark

This is getting to be a realy common irratant net wide for people running forums and blogs. I saw the posts last night/early this AM. Glad you caught it. It was an attempt by someone running a system text encoded in Chinese Simplified to post a link list. Had the encoding for here been set that way or a user reset to view it it would have showed the charaters. Generally the links are "nasty" buggers for the curious.
A few of my clients have a living hell on their blogs with this crap backing up awaiting moderation. Most simple forum and blog applications do not have filters that can recognise these characters and delete the crap. Anyhow, good work in adjusting the forum. It is a real shame an interested or interesting passer by has to suffer due to these idiots.
A new trick SPAMMERS are using to get past filters is using the pattern of running words together without spacers to defeat the tool. I get a ton of these with subjects like this: "RE: UseGenerikViagraAndIndulgeYourLadyAllDayLong." They are nearly impossible to filter out.

Thanks, Pat P. Pop, ya don't wanna strangle the lil Bast*rds, ya wanna stick a rough cut 2 x 12 up their arseki, without the benefit of slick stuff.

Thanks for your support guys it means a lot to me because I really did want to try and keep this forum as user friendly to all as possible. I guess if the passer-by's want in bad enough they will register. They can still view the x-open boards so hopefully all your posts, pics, comments and jokes (oh my God the jokes!) will be enough to keep them. Thanks again! P.S. Oh My God the jokes! You guys kill me! I just returned from another trip to the Philippines (seems to be about every 4-5 weeks give or take) and while I was there I read this one from our faithful jokester Jeff * Why were hurricanes usually named after women? - Because when they arrive, they're wet and wild, but when they go, they take your house and car. I just had to share that with my asawa there in Manila and she absolutely laughed so hard she was almost peeing her pants... keep in mind Typhoons are common in the PI so she could picture this in her head. Oh, and of course the 'wet and wild' part ... come on, we're talking the Philippines here, she always is! Oh crap I hope she never reads this or I'm dead

Great idea to make posting for members only. Maybe some of the "drive by" readers will join and let their thoughts be known. I get on average 50 spam messages every day. Fortunately Yahoo puts them in a bulk file for me to dump. Thanks for a good site, Pat. Hope it keeps going for a long time. It is nice to hear from other old Six troops..
