Something new I'm working on to display photo's on the web site. You can see it on the 329th FIS page of the F-106 site by clicking any of the photo's. They will open up in a small window with a caption below the photo. This will be very time consuming retrofit the entire site this way, but I kind of like how it looks. Pat :

Pat Hi Pat Mc, Looks and works pretty good. I like that you can still download a a pic if you need to. If you are just looking for a captioning solution Erv Smalley may have an example at: www.convairf-106deltadart.com/MartyErv01Large.htmlI don't know how he does this but I don't think the caption is attached to the picture, I think it is part of the background page. It does involve a page change to see the bigger picture and a return to get back to the page you were on with the thumbnail. However if you just want caption capability it may be a lot easier than reengineering all the pics on the site. Thanks, Pat P. :

Pat, the way Erv's page does it is simply a separate html page for each pic, which is done through his host sites webpage builder, a web based page builder offered by most on-line site creation hosts, very common for those who do not code their own pages. While it works well, the aesthetics of individual pages per photo is not my preferred method as it takes you out of your website, loosing your css formatting, menus and other links, and requires the user to rely on the web browsers Back and other nav buttons to navigate around. Not my preferred method, and the only advantage to this method is being able to add captions, otherwise it's not much different than just opening a photo in your web browser. I like being able to display the large size photo without leaving the website to ensure all the navigation aids remain for you to use. I am a fan of the "jump to" method where you can navigate anywhere you wish from within any page of the site while retaining the site display. Thus, the 329th page code experiment. I attempted this early on with the www.f-106deltadart.com/Michel_Klaver_Collection.htm page where I used an application to create the result you see when you click a photo, but it is too cumbersome so I dropped it after that page. My 329th page thumbnail code is much easier to use and more reliable

My 329th page thumbnail code is much easier to use and more reliable Hi Pat Mc, I see what you mean by cumbersome as I look at your previous experience with the Klaver collection. I also see your point about ease of navagation by using your new "magnifier" solution while remaining on the same page. Many of the newspapers and others concerned about copyrights are using the Adobe Flash players for slide shows making it almost impossible to download single pics. Your new magnifier allows downloads of the base image which is nice for guys like us on the forum who like to grab a couple of cool pics for wallpaper, scrap books, personal albums and such. I don't know how much trouble it is for you to install the new magnifier across your sites but it sure looks like a solution that meets everyone's needs. BTW is that a special app or just an html code package? My sister might be able to use that on her jewelry site www.sedonaflame.com . Happy New Year! Pat P. : a one term wonder who probably shoulda stayed in

Hey Pat! Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year! Looks like I may be coming back to Sunny Korea some time later this year! And, maybe even to HAwaii! We will let you know when and where! Oh, just a small thing that I would like to see the site have. How come under the "Other associated units" we do not have anything representing Air Training Command? I know I have some stuff from Lowry, the 3450th Training Group that handled the MA-1 training for avionics and the 462XX Weapons loaders. Those squadrons were the 3453rd Student Squadrons and the 3460th Weapons Student squadron. Oh, we can't forget about Sheppherd and all you Crew dogs! Let me know what you think and I'll get some things to you for posting. Anyone else out there that has pictures from Tech School, please chime in! MArv
