I'm new here, and I am trying to figure out why the 106 (and 102) had a 2 handled control stick. I'm guessing it had something to do with the MA-1. I've read several books, and seen some pictures, but can't find any info on that stick.

Welcome Andrew glad you made it over. Give this a couple days and I'm sure you'll get some good replies.
Speaking of control stick, didn't someone see one on ebay recently?

I've read several books, and seen some pictures, but can't find any info on that stick. Welcome Andrew! Go here to find your answer www.f-106deltadart.com/history.htmHere's the info you are looking for: There were further problems with the MA-1 fire control system and with the cockpit layout. Originally, the control column had occupied the traditional center location, but was later moved to the side at USAF insistence in order to ensure an unrestricted view of the Horizontal Situation Indicator. This arrangement turned out not to be viable, and the control column was later moved back to the center and equipped with a two-handed grip for both radar and aircraft control. The right-hand grip was used for control of the aircraft and the left-hand grip was used for operation of the radar. A button in the middle of the yoke gave the pilot control of the radar antenna, and another button on the left grip enabled the pilot to put the pipper on the target by following directions on the radar scope. The pilot selected the missiles to be fired by using a switch on the left console, with the trigger that was used to launch the missiles being on the right hand grip. I Googled F-106 control yoke and came up with this and a few other pages. Thanks, Pat Perry 456th FIS

The stick could be tricky to work on at times too. More than once I had to "modify" some of the switch acuators to get the buttons to work properly, and getting the potentiometer in the left grip base in the right place could be fun too. Unfortunately, I proved somwhat adept at them, and got to fix the majority that came into the shop. There were a couple that I actually had to completely refurbish. :smokin:

Thanks for the answers guys! Thanks for the warm welcome too. I kind of figured it was radar related. Must have been a real joy fly and control the radar on the same stick. I guess it worked though!
