Hello all sixers! First of all, I was stationed at Sawyer back in 73. BUT, my question is something that happened long before my AF days. When I was about 15 yrs old, I worked fueling private aircraft and small commuters at a northern Wisconsin airport. Also cleaned the daily shuttle (a Beach 99) at the end of the day. I recall somewhere around 68 or 69 a plane (I believe a T33) made an emergency landing at the airport. I think there was a fuel problem. He landed with a tailwind and wound up in a ditch off the end of the runway. They put guards on the plane until it could be dis-assembleed and hauled away. I recall the AP's who guarded it off the end of the runway coming down to the large hangar where I was cleaning the 99. They had heard my radio playing Beaker Theater (bay door was open - nice still summer night). They came driving up about 9 or so that night. I was the only other person at the airport. They asked about where to get a beer so I took them up to a nearby tavern where they bought a couple six pacs and went back to the plane. Anyone heard this one before? Don't know if the bird was from Duluth or KI.
