I was stationed at Oxnard in 68-69. We had a six crash just shy of the runway. Does anyone know if it was 57-2457? Date of 4/22/69 looks about right but not sure.

Yep, it was 57-2457 all right. CSD failed on final approach. Augered into the citrus grove off the north end of the runway. First place they ran to was the AFCS shop but she had a clean bill of health!!! Was piloted by a Major but don't recall the name. Followed the rest of the 57 models to Kingsley Field & then Grand Forks where we gave them to the MT ANG.
Ron Kollas, TSgt at the time. AFCS shop

Was that jet a round-eye? Believe that it would have been a Round-Eye. Of interest is that the acft was eventually "returned to service" after the crash...flying over Italian airspace in October 2003. www.convairf-106deltadart.com/57245704Large.html

I painted the tail on this aircraft. Of course it looked a little better than this when I painted it. Pat Perry
