For some reason I've been all over this aviation archaeology research today and just ran across this very interesting story with a tie to the pre-F-106 days of the 437th FIS. F-89s to be specific! Just an amazing read! 208 rockets fired, 500 fire fighters fighting over 600 acres for two days, rockets in people's kitchens, well, what a mess! www.thexhunters.com/xpeditions/f6f-5k_accident.htmlPlease poke around the rest of this site for other amazing stories! There is also a very cool read about our own Col Joe Rogers and his ejection from the SR-71A. www.thexhunters.com/xpeditions/sr-71a_953_accident.html(Go to the bottom of the page and click on "The X-Hunters" to go to their home page. Great stuff!) I love history!

I remember being at old Vincent AFB AZ in July of 57 & the 437th came in for their annual gunnery trip. We used to make bets as to how many thousand feet of runway they would use before getting airborne on those hot days. Many years later (1968) I arrived at Oxnard between the leaving of the 437th F101B & the F106's coming to Oxnard from Castle. Now the place in Yuma Marine Corp Air Station!!!!! God it got HOT on that flight line!!
