Can anyone tell me how this happened? i can't understand how someone from the 119th would be within reasonable range to be scrambled for such a thing. thanks, jared.

Hi jared, That was during a time when the "Bear" was running a scheduled run down the East Coast to Cuba. The first escort was from Keflavick, Iceland, Then maybe Otis ANG, NJ ANG, Langley and Jacksonville. It was almost on a schedule. No Big Deal! Black Bart

The one that I really liked was for the show "Project UFO". They showed an episode when I was at Tyndall for the Hands-on stuff after tech school (MA-1, of course).
We turned it off when they scrambled Castle birds for UFO over DC.

HEY HEY NOW!!! Don't get down on those Castle AF Birds! We worked HARD to get that scene right! Must of been at least three tries to get the taxi, then burner and takeoff correct! And besides, Washigton is NOT that far away! Lets see, full mil and burner for about 15 mnutes, MAch 2, then a hasty re-fuel and do it all over again! Those birds could possibly get to Washington in about 2-3 hours IF there were enough tankers along the way, and MA-1 kept working! A Green beer for ya! MArv :-X8-)

I just got back from a week at the Jersey shore, and there were plenty of Russians working on the boardwalk. Maybe the bear was just bringing some students to the shore for summer jobs?
