Recently, I found one of my grandfather's old coffee cups he kept as a memento from Hahn, and it's marked "50th Field Maintenance Br." (as opposed to the expected "Field Maintenance Sq." with a picture of an F-100. I know for the groundpounders a "Br" is a Brigade, but I have NEVER in my admittedly limited experience seen that abbreviation used by ANY USAF formation.
Anyone ever heard of this? I also have his 8th AF NCO Academy (Class 62-E) mug, and I'll try to get a pic of them side by side. Wish there was one from 325th CAMS or 318th FIS for his McChord days, but...

A Branch was a major "Shop" within a Sq and sounded better. At Tyndall I was part of the ADC Weapons Center, 4756 Avionics Squadron, MA-1 Branch and MA-1 Flight-Line Shop (We also had a Mock up Shop). After I cross trained I was always part of Aircrew Training Devices Branch.
