Apologies for asking this question on a F-106 forum, but I'm wondering whether anyone might be able to help.
I'm a British aviation writer researching a book about the British aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal. In 1972 a pair of Buccaneer strike aircraft were launched from about 300 miles east of Florida Keys to fly to British Honduras (now Belize) and back. Their route took them over the Keys, round Cuban airspace and down through the Gulf of Mexico. On the outbound leg all the radio calls went smoothly. On the way back they were unable to make contact with US controllers and were intercepted by a pair of ANG F-102's from Homestead ARB - detached from Jacksonville AFB. I want to try to track down the pilots of the two Delta Daggers and talk to them about their memories of the incident.
The incident took place during the afternoon of 28th January 1971 and the unit involved was, I believe, the 125th Fighter Wing (who themselves converted to F-106s themselves a few years later, I think ...)
I realise that this is a slightly odd request, but in the absence of a site similar to this one for the F-102, I hoped that someone might be able to help - or at least point me in the right direction!
