Hi guys,
Working on a History of Hamilton AFB. Looking for info on the strange accident of this aircraft on July1, 1972 at Hamilton. It was a night IFR check ride and the pilot busted the ride when he struck one of the approach light with his left gear. The instructor pilot took it around and when he felt they weren't going to fall out of the sky, called in the emergency. He landed with the left wing high but when the speed burned off and the left gear touched down the gear strut went through the top of the wing. The wing tip contacted the ground and the two guys inside became passengers. The aircraft started a wide turn to the left, missed a number of parked aircraft missed the emergency vehicles and personnel, headed between the hangers following the yellow taxi line and went through the flight line security fence and ended up in the roadway facing the wrong direction on a oneway street. Both pilots made a quick egress and where almost run down by the fire trucks trying to keep up with the aircraft.
What I'm looking for is the name and rank of the pilots involved.

Fred O Hey Fred O, www.convairf-106deltadart.com/57250902Large.htmlHere's the link to Erv Smalley's web page that has a lot of info you are looking for. I did not see the pilots name but maybe Philip Viener can help you out - his email address is on the mail note link under the picture of 57-2509. Thanks, Pat Perry 456th FIS

Thanks much Pat,
Just sent an email to Phil Viener to see if he knows the names. Have already sent a request off to AFSC/CD at Kirtland, but they take forever to reply.

Hi Pat,
Phil Viener says the Instructor pilot was a Captain Gary Shephard.
