THANKS BLACK BART, THAT IS NOT AS GREAT AN ACHIEVEMENT AS IT MIGHT SOUND---- EVEN FOR THE 27TH..........MY NIECE, LT COL (omitted to protect the innocent) HAS BEEN ONE OF THE PROJECT OFFICERS FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS, AND SAYS THE WHOLE THING HAS BEEN LOADED WITH POLITICS AND BACKBITING........HAS ACTUALLY TAKEN LONGER TO GET GOING (WHOLE PROGRAM) THAN THE DUECE AND SIX PROGRAM COMBINED......THE 1st EVEN BORROWED PLANES FOR TRAINING, ALTHOUGH A STANDARD PRACTICE, EVEN IN OUR DAY, DOESN'T SAY MUCH FOR THE WHOLE PROGRAM.....THE "TCTOs" STACK IS OVER A FOOT TALL........ ;D ;D ;D The Old Sarge

I think the neat thing about this is that the 27th is still around. I remember the 50th anniversary party we had for the founding of the Squadron. That was nearly 40 years ago at Loring in the dead of winter. It was held in the ADC hanger and it was a blast! My wife reminds me that the heated floor was so hot that she burned the bottoms of her feet dancing barefooted (after a few adult beveredges.) Lets hope this great squadron is still around in another 90 years.

Actually this is a GREAT DEAL. Got their first factory bird in September. Only had 8 last month and made a major deployment to Hill AFB for two weeks. Left Langley on Saturday, with 3 IFRs scheduled. Had 1 air abort that came back with a wingman. Flew them out Monday. Thursday on postflight they somehow FODed an engine, so he was probably the hangar queen. With 7 A/C they completed over 80% of assigned tasks including Intercept, High and Low Level support and pilots are now confident that Anti-A/C can not see them. FODed A/C and a wingman had to remain at Hill and wait for an engine. All A/C are home now and 4 more A/C bring total to 12. Should be at 24 by Dec 06. Deployment was to Hill because there was no F-22 support or parts anywhere in the area. Jack

I read a few days ago in the Air Force Times "Early Bird" e-mail that the USAF has offcially changed the designation of the Raptor back to F-22A. They dropped the "F/A" according to the author because they got the program the way they wanted it and only added the A to sell it to congress! Anyway, it's a Fighter all the way and officially now.

Friday morning 6 F-15Cs of the 94th landed for the last time. The 94th gave all remaining F-15s to the 71st and will start work Monday morning with the 27th in combined training and operations. This is a cool approach, the experts teaching the new. When the 94th is up to speed and has enough Raptors, half of the best will split off to go back to 94th operations and the 71st will then do the same. Of interest is in the BRAC decision Langley will get an F-15C Sq. from Alaska and Alaska will gain a Raptor Squadron. I wonder if they will build the Squadron at Langley then switch? Something to think about. 27th will deploy to Alaska in March. Jack
