Planning on another Amtrak adventure at the end of june. Back down to the bay area in sunny totally screwed up California. When I started visiting my son a couple of years back I decided to take the train.. so I researched and joined the Amtrak rewards club and applied for a Amtrak master card… both these items gave me points and rewards for the use there of… as long as I paid them off before the due date I would incur no charges.. that I have maintained. For the past several trips I earned 20000 points. For this next trip I just wanted to see what the little sleeper would cost… $503.00 from Oakland to Tacoma ( 23 hours and about 900 miles).. can you believe that. I clicked on the points and found that the sleeper was 19250. So guess whose going to dinner in the club car next month… the meals are free, there is a turndown service, a personal crapper and shower. There is also access to the famous parlour car…. Free movies and over amenities. Beats sleeping in a recondition airline seat.

Gene, did you get to take that trip? My wife and I are contemplating about doing one like that, only the Canadian Rockies trip. Looks like the sleeper deal is the way to go.

sleeper is the way... talked to a lady at lunch that took the canadian version of amtrak across the country... loved it... the food was great all the courses... about $100 worth of food...(i picked the most expensive item per meal) but like i said before i would have paid $500 for 24 hrs .
