I have a decent aim-4F display, I've found a older firebee drone, I would still like to find a newer model. But I am looking for a display of the Genie Air-2A, short of buying one from the PIs. Does anyone ever recall seeing a display of one? I loaded a lot of them, being the 3 man on the load team. I might have to try building my own.

Castle Air Museum has one of the load training Genies that perhaps you could get the Chief of the Darts to send you detailed photos of it and the dolly. Let me know and I'll play contact for you.....

If you know him, and would not mind, I am in to RC and high power rockets, I want to build about a 18 inch display, along with trailer, being a weapons troop, I tore down, reprinted many a MB-1 rack, I am thinking of building a MB-1 rack also. But I am going to build a launch able Genie using a F or G power motor. So anyone with photos would be of great interest to me. Brownie

I have the unclassified maintenance T.O. on the Genie which includes all of the actual dimensions if that helps. I built a 1 - 1 scale model of the Genie. I worked on the Genie for 10 years with the '89J, '101 and '6. I have not seen a model of the Genie other than the ones from PI. There is a desk model of the AIM-26 and AIM-4A to go along with your AIM-4D. I have a picture of my Genie under General Talk Weapons of ADC.

I built the Genie using the dimensions from the T.O. The nose cone/warhead are laminated fiber board, the rocket motor is a 16" concrete form with a laminated fiber board tail cone, the fin/flap/fairing assembly's are 1/2" aspen and do retract (on the '89 the fin/flaps were manually extended by the load crew at completion of the load.) Since the rockets were carried externally there was a possibility that the fin/flaps could get iced up and not extend so manual extension was the remedy. The '101 and '6 carried internally as you know and the fin/flaps were kept in the retracted position by dacron cords which burned through at motor ignition and exhaust gas extended the assemblies. As a side note the Genie weighed approximately 830lbs of that, 328lbs was solid propellant which burned in 2 SECONDS and generated 36,250lbs of thrust (stick that in your J-79)! The Genie has a live round paint job rather than the orange or blue of an inert round.
The AIM-4's were training shapes the orange and white one is a 4E and the all orange is a 4A.
The two seats are restorations that I did after I acquired the seats. One is from F-89J 52-1905 the other is from T-33 58-0510. Luckily the tail numbers were still stenciled on the seats so I was able to get the assignment history of both aircraft and have been able to find all of the unit patches. The F-89 was last assigned to the 179th FIS at Duluth and the T-33 was last assigned to the 49th FIS. Interesting stories behind both seats for another time.
the 2.75" FFAR is a dummy round with a live round paint job.
Glad to answer any questions.

News from the Chief O' Tha Darts and Daggers and what you 456th guys can expect on OCD.....Hi Older Sarge, You caught me at the right time as I am working on restoring the MB-1 Trailer and one of the 2 Genies that are loaded on the F89. I have been asking to do this for a long time, but could never get it started. I recently took a trip to Travis AFB and stopped by their museum. They have an MB 1 on a trailer and it is Beautiful, so I said to myself, I am going to do this at CAM in Honor of all of the F 106 troops wherever they were and wherever they are. The display at Travis was donated by the 87 th FIS. In the mean time I am working on a 1947 P 84, a 1957 F 105B, the Fresno ANG F 16C , and a C47 with the DDay stripes, etc. My plan is to display the Genie under the F 106 on OCD and then store it in the hanger until we get a building. So, for an old man, I am hanging in there. I have some pictures of the Genie and trailer and will have more as time goes by. Good to hear from you. A big HI to all the 6 troops. Ralph L. Robledo

You do great fabrication work. Please explain how you constructed the AIR-2A nose cone. I'm thinking you glue laminated a bunch of MDF and spun it on a lathe?
You and the Chief O' the Darts, Ralph Robledo, ought to meet up one of these days. Ralph was MA-1 in the 84th FIS which spent time at Castle AFB, CA. He's been in the Restoration shop for the Castle Air Museum for years and restored many of their aircraft including the 456th FIS F-106. Ralph is an excellent fabricator and painter. He made some missiles out of PVC pipe that look like the real deal. He painted the F-106 and it still looks great after 13 years in the hot California sun. His son, Dean, took over as crew chief and keeps it washed and waxed. www.castleairmuseum.org/

You are correct, that is how the nose/warhead were constructed. I still have to make the forward and aft launch lugs, rocket motor igniter cable and nozzle spin vanes. It will depict a rail launch rocket configured for the '89J. I would like to find a dummy round for the Minnesota ANG Museum. There must be stacks of them somewhere so if anyone out there knows of one and an MF-9 trailer let me know.

Pat, how long has Ralph Robledo actually been at the museum? MOW, I met Ralph on Dec 26, 2002 when I emailed him about some posts he had made on your F-106 website. On Dec 27, 2002 Ralph wrote: "I worked as a letter carrier for the post office after I retired from the USAF. I completely retired in 2000, so I found some time to volunteer at CAM. It is great. More later. Ralph"
CAM had just received the F-106 from AMARC and Ralph (with 15 years F-106 experience) and the restoration crew began work on it.
Thus began a great friendship! One of many that your website helped to create over the years.
