While stationed at KI Sawyer 83-87, stories abounded that the 87th was scheduled to trade in their Sixes for F-15 Eagles but the plan fell through due to budget cuts.
Does anyone know if ideas were kicked around for what the tail art might have looked like for a "Red Eagle"? Lol! I was thinking about it this morning and I came to the opinion (YMMV) that the traditional Red Bull would have looked "wrong" on an Eagle because of the near vertical angle of the tail's leading edge. That's one design that really looked it's best on an angled tail as on the Six or maybe a Phantom. (Hmmm, an 87th F-4E with TISEO, F100 engines and AIM-120's and AIM-9L's!)
If anyone has pictures or conceptual drawings, I'd love to see them. Thanks!
