Well the wife and I finally decided to take a little trip. We left home Sunday after church and drove to Montgomery Al. Next day it was on to Biloxi MS and the casino's. We soent 3 nights at the old "Grand" casino, now called Harrah's Gulf Coast Casino. Very nice room and all of the things that go with a good hotel. We didn't concentrate on Harrah's for the slots. We went to several others but spent most of the time at Boomtown. It is part of the Hollywood casino's. We have three of them within 1 1/2 hours of us. Closest is 10 miles away in Dayton. After hurting my knee, we never made it to the beach for the long romantic evening walk. We made it over to Kessler AFB a couple times just for fun. Nice to see the students marching to class.
Thursday we left Biloxi and drove over to Ft Walton Beach for lunch and a tour through Hurlbert Field. I spent a lot of TDY time there after retiring, so I showed wife the Special Ops part of AF. Then it was off to Panama City FL and the Miracle Beach. I also gave my wife a tour of Tyndall AFB and their F-22 aircraft. I also showed her old F-106 59-0165. It still looks good from a distance, but has had several not so good touch-ups on vertical stab which don't come close to matching. Friday after spending way too much at "beach shops" we departed Panama City and took scenic route up to Montgomery AL. No,not route 231, but many different small roads through FL. Once we got into AL, we hooked up with I-65 and it was just cruise control and steer the SUV. We spent the night in Franklin TN and got an early start home. But since we were making such good time, we had to stop a casino between Cincinnati and Dayton to spend our "comps". Overall it was a very relaxing vacation. We didn't lose much on slots, wife actually came out ahead. We found some very good restaurants and I over ate as usual. The Honda CR-V did exceptional on gas mileage, getting the worst of 30.5 mpg and best of 32 mpg. And most of that was at 75 mph on freeways. It also drives and rides very good. So I am happy with the choice. Wife says we need to go up to New England in a couple weeks to see the trees change colors for fall. We can also see some old friends along the way. But it sure felt good to sleep in my own bed last night. Lorin

My wife and I just got home from the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. Spent two weeks there at the Kauai Beach Resort. Since 1986 we have vacationed in Hawaii 10 times and always stay about 14-16 days. We believe if you are going that distance then you must stay awhile and enjoy. First week we had our son and his wife with us. They never had a honeymoon or the money to take one over the 7 1/2 years of marriage and 3 kids, so we treated them to one week. During the 2 weeks we took a horseback on the Silver Falls Ranch, snorkel trip out to the forbidden island, cruised the Napali coast, ATV trip through the Kipu Ranch, swam in waterfalls, enjoyed sunsets, sunrises, great Hawaiian food, our resort and its 3 swimming pools. I'd venture out at 0500hrs to the beach in a t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops and watch the sunrise. Temp was usually 75-80 degrees with that sweet smelling trade breeze and the soothing sound of the waves. We hated to come back home.
My swing and splash from the Indiana Jones Rope Swing. Did it 3 times.
My wife and our daughter-in-law swimming in waterfalls on the Kipu Ranch. After I filmed them I jumped in myself. Alittle chilly but very refreshing.

Have a safe and enjoyable trip. Nice that you will beat the snows. If we did not have this Hawaii Trip planned 6 -7 months out Belinda and I might have made the F-106 reunion. Would have enjoyed meeting up with you. Take care & God Bless. Gary
