Yesterday, De and I, with friends from Pahrump, Nevada, drove up to Fredericksburg.
On the way we stopped at the Wildflower Farm.
While there I spotted a man wearing an Air Force Veteran cap, with Viet Nam written on it.
I talked to him and found out he had been a Special Weapons guy in the 95th at Dover.
So, I told him about the Forum and invited him to give us a try.
When we got to Fredericksburg, the first order of business was something to eat.
Then the ladies went looking in the shops and Skip and I went to the National Museum of the Pacific War.
It had been a number of years since I had been there, and I had not toured the new wings.
Skip was a Crew Chief on the U.S.S. Oriskany just before Nam, so he also wanted to visit.
It is hard to describe the museum, as there are so many things there.
There is a TBM, similar to what George H. W. Bush flew in WW2, and a B-25.
It also houses, in the old Nimitz Hotel, the Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Museumn which has many of his personal belongings.
Nimitz was born in Fredericksburg and grew up there.
Being retired military, the entrance fee for me was $10.
If you happen to find yourself in South Central or South Texas, it is well-worth the visit.
Plan on spending at least 4 hours, and if you can, two days.
They also have a large store with lots of books about the Pacific War and those involved.
