We recently bought a set of 3 books, Ghosts of North Dakota, which have pictures and storied about abandoned places in North Dakota. www.ghostsofnorthdakota.com/

I came across four places that may interest you "Cold Warriors".

The first one is the Stanley R. Mickelsen Safeguard complex in Nekoma, North Dakota.

An ABM site.

The second is Fortuna Air Force Station, an Early Warning site.

The third is Minot Air Force Station.

Very interesting, some sites/stations were actually rehabbed and became part of the nearby town... Caswell AFS Loring AFB ME.....

It is still owned by the Army, but being sold.

So, either the Army or the new owner is flying the flag.

If you go to this site, click on "RADAR SITES" on the left side, then type in ND you can find Fortuna AFS. LOTS of pics, documents, and history. Type in any state, or the name of the station, etc. (You'll see what I mean if you have never been to that site.) I have literally spent HOURS on that web site. It is that fascinating to me.

Last week my wife and I visited the places we used to be assigned in West Germany. Both are closed down.

Only a couple hundreds of the old Sembach Runway is left and used as a parking lot. The old hanger I used to work in sometimes is still there but being used by a commercial company.
