Yester-day, 1 August, was the birthday of the original Jeep, in 1941.
The link is to a story and video from Yahoo Autos.
Be sure to watch the video of three chained-up Jeeps doing their thing.
Not much like the present day Jeeps.
Just the size is so far different, it makes me wonder what happened to the original concept.

No, Jim, no 1941 Jeeps are being made, but Apes are still being "made".
Evolution works with machines, but not humans.
I would like to see FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) build an old style Jeep.
Even an early to mid 1950s model would do.
Just make it a real Jeep, not what they are building now.
As I drive on the Interstate and have a Four-door Jeep, at least it looks something like a Jeep, pass me when I am at the speed limit, there is something wrong.
Back when all Jeeps had high torque, low RPM flat-head, 4 cylinder engines and the shifters on the floor, they had a hard time getting up to the speed limit on the highway.
But, they could climb the side of a mountain, ford a stream or go through most any kind of mud or snow.
There was even a Fligh Line model with a bubble hood, with a generator under the bubble, that was used to power up aeroplanes and could even start most of them.
It also doubled as a Tug when needed.
I know some of our members are Jeep guys and have newer models, but I still prefer the old ones.
They just look, sound and act more like a real Jeep.

was cleaning out a drawer and came up with this... found this thread...and following thru... this is what was designated M 151 jeep. it was configured with 4 radios on an air-conditioned pallet. vhf, uhf, hf, and fm.(all voice) new designation MRC 108. this is what we used thru the '70's. enlarge photo and look thru the wind shield.. taken at the Yakima firing center, Wa. controlling a/c at primitive LZ.
