Jim, I live about 8 miles from where that flight took place. Yep, the real old Oakland Airport.
Does any of it still exist?
There were a number of notable flights that took off from there, or landed there, as the weather was better than the original San Francisco Airport.
As I recall, Amelia Earhart flew out of there numerous times, as did Wiley Post and the Lindberghs, as they flew around the world to find places for Pan Am to land their Flying Boats.

Yep, the real old Oakland Airport.
Does any of it still exist? Isn't it the now, Oakland International Airport? By the way, if anyone is curious about old airports (including military airfields) that are probably not around any longer, you can spend hours on this site checking them out. It's broken down by state. www.airfields-freeman.com/Here's just the page for the Oakland, CA area... www.airfields-freeman.com/CA/Airfields_CA_Oakland.htm(They have one for SF as well Jim Too. MANY pages for California, in fact.)

There is a couple of old hangers left from when I was a kid, but I'm fairly sure they weren't around during that era. I think they were built pre WW II. The old tower is still located at what is now the commercial field. The International Airport is approx. 1/4 mile west of the old field, but integrated thru the ramps and the FEDEX and UPS hangers. They have a brand new tower. The old one room terminal is still there, but you can't just walk out to your flight like you could when I was little. I can remember meeting my uncle at the aircraft stairs when he returned after WW II (he was career Army and didn't return until sometime after the war ended.) There is a small aircraft museum at the old field, but has mostly Navy military aircraft. The seaplane used in the original Indiana Jones movie is also there although you wouldn't recognize it (miracle's of CGI.)
