This from Mark O. Williams (our other MOW) via FaceBook via Bobski - Pat P.
Mark O Williams 3:33am Feb 1 This is a MUST WATCH video if you are a Sixer!! (Well, duh. Aren't we all?!) Really good video about the F-106B spin test program.
I really like the mods they made to the aircraft including the nose strakes, the chute, and the ejection seat. (Hmmm? That would have come in handy earlier.)
Seriously; worth a watch. F-106B Spin Testing at Edwards AFB The F-106B Delta Dart interceptor underwent spin tests at Edwards AFB in the late 1950s, using deployable nose strakes and a spin 'chute as recovery devices if needed. This color film describes the tests with many great views of the Delta Dart spinning over the Mojave Desert.
A word from Nemo: From: rjnemo@aol.com To: bobski9933@aol.com Sent: 2/1/2014 12:58:59 P.M. Eastern Standard Time Subj: Fwd: [Convair F-106 Delta Dart] This is a MUST WATCH video if you are a Sixer!!...
BOBSKI, CHECK OUT THE F-106 SPIN VIDEO BELOW. ALSO CHECK OUT THE FOLLOW UP VIDEOS. I RECOVERED FROM A FULL INVERTED FLAT SPIN IN THE F-106. PULLED 4 NEGATIVE G'S AND BROKE ALL THE BLOOD VESSELS IN MY EYES. TRIED TO BAIL OUT GOING THROUGH 15M BUT COULDN'T REACH THE HANDGRIPS CAUSE THE BACK OF MY NECK WAS UP AGAINST THE TOP OF THE CANOPY. I FINALLY APPLIED THE CORRECT RECOVERY PROCEDURE FOR AN INVERTED SPIN AND THE NOSE DROPPED GOING THROUGH 10M. GOT THE MINIMUM RECOVERY AIRSPEED (230 KNOTS) AND PULLED OUT BEFORE I HIT THE COLD ATLANTIC. MY "POOPIE SUIT" WOULD PROBABLY NOT HAVE HAD A CHANCE TO MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE. NEMO
Yes, all caps is yelling but I'd be yelling too if I went through what Nemo did. Pat. P

Yea, Nemo had a pretty amazing ride it sounds like.
I actually found that video via the real MOW. He posted it on HIS Facebook page, and I was waiting for him to put it up here, or over on the F-106 FB page. I just did it myself last night. (Got quite a response!)
Thanks for putting it up here Pat P. I'm sure MOW will put it on the videos page soon enough.

Wow Thanks Earle! Bobski
Bob, Thanks for the forward. That was our chase aircraft for NASA 616 that we had the J-85 engines installed. We used it for other various research projects as well. I happened to have flown the last flight in it from Cleveland to Langley AFB where NASA sawed it in half vertically. One half was put in a wind tunnel.to gain data on the vortex flap program. Poor thing, it never had a chance for a pedestal or museum. Earle Boyer - NASA 616 pilot
