You may already be aware of the below information.
If so, please pass it on to others eligble for TRICARE and TFL.
For those of you not using a base pharmacy for medications, the link is to a story from Military.com, about the new TRICARE Pharmacy Caluculator.
It will probably save you some money if you are using a local pharmacy, not Express Script or a base.

TRICARE has gone through some experiments in recent years. A couple years ago they declared that anyone over 20 miles from WPAFB could no longer use the Medical Center under TRICARE. Active duty could use it in same locations. But after a local group of us complained to our Senators/Reps, the Base Commander did an about face on "her" decision. She was also on retirement list shortly afterwards. Then all TRICARE came up with the 40 mile rule. That hasn't been challenged as yet. It basically disallows user at further distances to not be allowed to use TRICARE Prime. The friggin' Government Agencies want to blame TRICARE Prime for largest medical bills in history. They want to drastically increase costs. The same agencies are alerting about huge increase in VA costs. Seems like we had over 10 years of War and with newer medical capabilities the survival rates are way up, so that puts tens of thousands on VA disability/medical treatment that in times past would have died from injuries. The Government starts, and feeds the war and then complain that Military/VA medical costs are too high. Go Figure. Wife and I are moving back to Fairborn, home of WPAFB, in next couple months. Wife doesn't want to undertake move in cold winter weather. We closed 2 months ago, but allowed seller to live there for 60 days while he settled on where he is moving to. Right now he lives in his son's basement apartment. So when we move back to Fairborn, all the base medical treatment and RX services will be much closer. I have been able to use base RX system for majority of RX. My off base dermatologist writes some RX that base doesn't stock, so I go to local RX for service. Using the base does save a lot, especially since the recent increase in TRICARE RX services. I just got some literature in mail publicizing use of TRICARE warehouse RX services. It is much cheaper than using local Pharmacy. MOW, do you have any retirement plans yet? I discovered that I should have retired sooner, I enjoy it now. Took a few months to adjust, I started retirement in winter. I would suggest to anyone looking to start, to plan it so you start with best weather season to increase things to do. Lorin
