Growing up in San Francisco, our family would listen to Bob Hope on the radio every week.
We also went to see all of his movies.
His picture would be in the newspapers every day during the Crosby Clambake, what is now the Pebble Beach Golf Tournament, doing something funny.
Before we got involved in WW2, Hope took his radio show to March Field, to entertain the troops.
For the rest of the war, and a while beyond, nearly every broadcast was from a military base, either at home or overseas.
He, and his troupe, including band, singers, technicians, and anyone else he could squeeze in, traveled all over the world entertaining the troops during the way.
After the war he continued to tour military installations, putting on shows and having pretty girls with him, to dazzle the eyes of the lonely GIs.
When I was at The Goose, his plane landed for refueling, on their way to Thule.
He had been at The Goose the year before I got there, so didn't get to see his show.
When I was at Ubon in 1967, he brought his gang to Thailand and I, with hundreds of others, sat on the ramp for hours, waiting for the show to start.
It was wonderful.
I always liked Hope and really appreciated what he did for our military over the years.
Yes, Thanks for the memories.
