Bill McCole (27th FIS) posted this over on Facebook today. What an awesome piece of classic art!
This is what he wrote about it...
"This sketch was drawn by an early barracks-mate at Loring AFB. I remember only that he was from Newark, New Jersey. He gave me the original drawing as he was packing up for return to civilian life. The 27th FIS "mascot", the Falcon, sits atop the tail. Perhaps it looks a bit more like a vulture? The Squadron emblem of the Cold War era looked more like a bald eagle, anyway! For many years, I had missed a subtle detail placed by the artist. The “pilot” has his hand on a tiller ball. On that ball is a “three-ring” symbol that was the trademark of Ballantine Beer (now defunct) of Newark, NJ. A bit of home-town humor perhaps. The tail number “036” had a reputation for being a “hangar queen”. Since I didn’t work on the flight line I don’t know if the reputation was deserved or not. It might have been constantly cannibalized to keep other aircraft flying."

Yes, I saw that and had to laugh. Very cool. But the tail number 98036... they goofed on that.
