I've been TDY in Okinawa for the past 2 weeks, primarily at the US Army Garrison Torii Station, but also at Kadena AB and Camps Butler and Foster the Marine bases down the road. I am drained from the heat! The heat and humidity is really taking its toll. Not as young as I used to be... damn how did I handle it before when I used to live here Another week and back to normal I hope.

Wow. I was just thinking about Torii. When I was stationed there it was US Army Field Station Okinawa, Torii Station. 83-85. I don't remember it being to miserable, but I was 19-21 years old during those years.
Interestingly I've been packing up the garage this week, and have easily sweated off 5 pounds! 100+ degrees here all week. Ugh...
There are some advantages to the heat at our age! I don't like it, but I could stand to lose a few pounds!

If you could live through the earthquakes and typhoons the heat would get you in the end. One Summer day when the temp and humidity were both 99 I was dispatched to do a C-130 cabin pressure check to leak test new door seals. I ran the AC/Heat system up to 160 degree air so we could get to 2-3 psi over atmospheric. After the leak check I started depressurizing and when I got to about 1 psi over atmospheric, I opened the dump valve to let the pressure equalize. The cabin filled with cool fog due to rapid depressurization and for a couple of minutes it was as cool as the Airman's Club. I was soaking wet with sweat but it felt good. Later I went to the club and rehydrated with a pitcher of beer. Never occurred to me that water would have been better. Oh, the things we could endure when we were young. Pat P.

I spent 18 months stationed at Kadena in 1962-63. The heat and humidity were something I won't forget. That and the mosquitoes if you ventured into the canes. And the rats the size of cats. But, best of all was the Airman's Club. Largest and richest in the world at the time. Had Lionel Hampton (vibes) play there. Also Bob Hope on his USO tour.

Sat morning here today. I'm heading over to the Rocker Club, the NCO Club, for the Sat breakfast buffet, which is pretty nice. But, TOMORROW Sunday I will be back for their Sun Brunch, as I was last Sun, which is fantastic!

Had a good Sat today. First, didn't work, that was nice. Then pigged out on the Sat breakfast buffet at the NCO 'Rocker' Club on Kadena, that was really good (going back tomorrow for Sun Brunch... again). Hung out at the Kadena Exchange Mall for awhile, although the main reason for going was to pickup another SoftBank prepaid phone card to increase my load. I use the local SIM cards on my trips so I am making local calls on-site vs roaming. Went to the base theater to see the 'Man of Steel' superman movie, something I haven't done in ages... go to a base theater. Walked out Gate 2 late in the afternoon and sat outside a street side cafe drinking a draft in a frosty mug... which stayed frosty for about 3 seconds in this damn heat, but it was still good. And then headed back to the Royal Hotel outside Torii Station's main Gate 1 where we're staying fir this trip. Nice place, lower than per diem rates for Jr Suites.... the standard rooms were not available for our timeline damn! Had to settle for the rooms with the jacuzzi, washer/dryer, kitchen etc, damn..... ... I so hate TDY's Tonight I think I'll taxi back over that way and see what's happening on BC Street

Belinda and I left Incirlik AB, Turkey just intime. Temps were pushing 100 and the humidity was close behind. Just love this Pacific Northwest weather.
