I was sitting here and all of a sudden I heard a big racket of bird sqawking. I looked out the window and a Hawk had attacked a starling and pinned it to the ground and then started picking at it. The starling tried to fight back but was pinned. After about 10 or 15 minutes the hawk flew away with the starling. I have several videos of it and later will load it onto youtube and post one. Last fall I saw a Bald Eagle take down a seagull out in our pasture.

My wife felt sorry for the starling and wanted me to go outside and save it. I said, "Hawks have to eat also, its not like there is a shortage of starlings."

Worth a whack in the old + karma. Man, your grass sure is green up there. I figured it would still be dormant this time of year. I found the rear half of a mouse in my front yard. Could have been a cat but my guess is a hawk. We get a lot of them around here with huge wing spreads. Beautiful birds. Pat P.

I guess the Starling was the one doing the "praying"! Reminds me of the one I saw in the lot when I was selling cars. (Crappy cell phone pic.) That bird didn't even care we were there, but I can guess what it would have done if someone tried to "save" it's lunch! Not this guy!!

Cool Mark,,,,,,,BTW did you try to sell the hawk a vehicle while it was there. Ha! I probably should have! The hawk tried to take off with that pigeon in it's claws about 3 or 4 times, but only made short hops it was so heavy! It finally made it to the corner of the lot for some privacy, and had lunch there. Quite a sight, and I'm sure you've seen it more than I have. Still, it's pretty awesome to watch. (Don't tell your wife!)

Since we're on the topic, here is another bird that was surely doing some praying when my cat got a hold of it! (An oldie, but a goodie I posted here before.) I think I found two feathers in the yard when the cat was done with that bird!
