This link from Bobski. Interesting 10 min video on F-106 Life Support Training at Tyndall, AFB. Don't know if we have this on the F-106 Main site? Pat P.
Great footage of F106 Life Support training School! Thanks Jim!

While I was stationed at Tyndall (1967-1971) I was able to witness many of the events shown in the film. Tyndall had the water survival school for years. It wasn't the same type school as was taught at Fairchild, but was geared to Fighter water ditching. The parasail was fun to watch. Just another of those moments of trivia we never seem to forget.
PS, The Tyndall Navy also provided all teh watercraft used in school as well as bigger boats used in Drone Recovery. The boats were also available to rent, with a full crew and supplies, at remarkable prices. A fishing cruise for 4 hours at about $10 per person, four minimum.

That was pretty cool! It's a bit different sequence of training now, but I've done most of that! In fact, most of the equipment is EXACTLY the same! I had to laugh watching the parachute training. Since I was trained in the Army as a parachutist -- and the USAF trains just slightly differently -- the instructor at Fairchild (who knew this when he asked about my jump wings) told me no matter what he told me I would revert to my Army training. Therefore, I asked him if I could skip his class! No dice!! I had to attend! By the way, the wind machine hasn't been used in years. I went through jump school in 1985, and they had stopped using it then. Other students just drag you in a harness as fast as they can. Oh yea, we launch off another boat when we parasail as opposed to from the shore. Water Survival is taught at Pensacola NAS these days. The standard SERE school that everyone (aircrew) goes to is still at Fairchild. For the helicopter guys, they do an extra "ditching" segment in the a dunk tank at Fairchild (no parachutes!), but just like everyone else, they go to Pensacola as well. Folks with ejection seats in their aircraft now wear the "horse collar" inflatable vest, the rest of us wore "Mae Wests" like the guys in the film are wearing. Best three day course I ever took by the way! (Fairchild SUCKED, as in the NOT all fun - specifically the "R" in SERE!!) Oh yea, if the occasion ever presents itself to you; do not eat square fish! A McDonalds Filet-o-Fish sandwich is okay at your own risk, however!

Very cool post! I went through NACCS (Naval Aircrew Candidate School) at NAS Pensacola in 1983 and we got to a lot of cool stuff! Land survival was out in the boondocks of the Eglin range...
