Ok SIX maintainers do you all remember the A/C Call Signs you used at your Squadron? At Dover AFB called " Dover Tower Echo Lima 10 radio check". Also our Electronics Truck was "Resistor 1 ".

Ok SIX maintainers do you all remember the A/C Call Signs you used at your Squadron? At Dover AFB called " Dover Tower Echo Lima 10 radio check". Also our Electronics Truck was "Resistor 1 ". When I was a crew chief on tankers the Crew Chief Expeditor was "5", and the Specialist Expeditor was "7." Since the E&E guys were specialists, they were in the "7" truck. In big units each AMU had it's own name, so at Grand Forks for example we had "Viking", and "Knight." (I was a "Viking 5" for some time!) The Pro Super was just "Viking Super", or "Knight Super." I can't remember what name they used here at Dyess, but the number system was the same. As I recall the squadron commander of the AGS, or AMXS was "Maintenance 1", and the other numbers were used down to the Chief. "6" was the extra crew chief truck, and "8" was the extra specialist truck, but were rarely used. It was always, "I have an E&E red ball. Call Viking 7", or "5" if you needed the crew chief. I honestly don't remember what we used when I was on the flight line in Tennessee, or Ohio. Probably just our first names!

318th FIS sixes used Lima Kilo at McChord.

We had placards on instrument panel with call-sign. If I remember right it was labled Radio callsign. Today's AF uses unique names for each squadron and some are repeated or duplicated. The link is a list of many of teh unit designator's.

When I was at Nellis, on F-105s, and at Minot, on F-106s, I had a runup and taxi license.
That was from 1961 to 1967.
When I was ready to taxi, I called either Nellis/Minot Ground Control or Nellis/Minot Tower and gave them the Call Sign.
That was true at both bases.
At night, Ground Control was not normally manned, except for exercises or a bunch of scheduled night flying.
So, at night I just talked to the Control Tower.
Yes, the airplane call sign was on the instrument panel.
I guess the idea was to keep everything simple.
At Minot they knew it was a Six by the call sign.
At Nellis we had to tell them the type of airplane.

At McGuire, when we called for a radio check the call sign was Juliet Golf and the A/C number, "McGuire tower this is Juliet golf 468 requesting radio check".
