Just saw on Face Book that Mark Schaaf passed away the end of Jan. He was a great guy. Following is what his brother posted on Mark's facebook page
My brother, Mark Schaaf, passed away unexpectedly on January 24, 2013 in South Carolina. Mark was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, and is my only sibling. Interested in airplanes since he was a little kid, he became a proud member... of the United States Air Force, where he served from late in 1980 until November of 2002. Some of the air bases he was stationed at included Minot, Holloman, Keflavik, Spangdahlem, and Langley. Mark was a Desert Storm era Persian Gulf veteran, and he served more than four years overseas. Since his military retirement a decade ago, he has been working with the F-16 simulator as a civilian contractor doing scheduling and security at Shaw AFB. We grew up as car fans, and he still has the big trophy he earned as a class winner drag racing at Bandimere Speedway in his 1969 Ford Torino. I still remember us blazing across Germany on the Autobahn in his beloved supercharged Thunderbird. Bitte ein Bit. My apologies for taking so long to make an announcement. This was a big shock to our parents and me, and the family has been sorting out many things in order to move forward. We now have the memorial service planned. This will take place on March 7 at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver. The cemetery has to keep these events quite brief, but there will be a small gathering afterward nearby. If you are one of his friends and are going to be in Denver on that date, please send me a private message and I can give you details.
Our parents appreciate the kind words of sentiment that have been posted here, and I will collect all these remembrances for them to have. I wish I had something more brilliant to say. I'll see you on the other side buddy. Dave
