This is an interesting one. www.foxnews.com/us/2013/01/24/michigan-military-cemetery-denies-burial-soldier-dog/?test=latestnewsOn one hand I can see a veteran's family saying that the cemetery would run out of room eventually if animals were buried; taking the place of men. On the other hand, why not? There has to be a place for some, especially the ones that actually served in combat. In a "for instance", if the dog, and it's handler died together I can see them being buried together. That may have already happened. I haven't researched it. But just the dog? I mean, the Army, and other services routinely (and have for quite a long time) "promoted" animals that serve. Horses, dogs, probably a mule or two. Why? They don't get paid more, and probably don't even get to go to the NCO club! (Okay, that was bad!) I know it's for morale more than anything. Some service animals have been stuffed I believe. Yea, this is definitely an interesting one. What do you guys think?

I'm not for this. Humans only in the National Cemetery.

It is a National Cemetary, ORIGINALLY intended for MILITARY no mention of specie..... Hell they have Congressmen buried there that the only fighting they did was to screw the miltary. That would be an insult to the dog........................ as Snuffy Smith would say , well not yet-if we are running out of space in Arlington, then stop fighting the worlds wars for them.. Ok Snuffy, go ahead with your statement- "NUFF SAID"by the Old Sarge

Some of our more Famous VA Cemetaries are in fact, running out of space. But Arlington isn't the only one available. I am sure they could enact a rule that set aside space for the "Hero" animals. I do not believe in giving them the same level of Hero status as a Homo Sappean. Hell, we ate dogs in Korea in 1968 at local resturants/Habachi's. We called it Mystery meat. Sometimes we carry a good thing too far. Those that are currently being buried probably have to have a mil spec Coffin etc. Enternment also takes resources (Digging and filling grave). All graves in VA Cemetaries also have to have engraved Headstones. All of those things cost money and thats one thing we are running short of. I wonder if they would also have to be embamed as well. And believe it or not, if they were to change all the current rules and manuals etc it would cost more than using coffin's etc.

So you ate dog (you think you did) The dogs also receive medals.... They have flown dogs thousands of miles for medical treatment after being wounded in combat, one who saved 2 soldiers lives and had 6 or 7 wounds... They don't have a choice as to whether they serve or not, their owner volunteers them and they serve where they are sent.. Some now are shot when they are no longer useful... Contact some handlers and see what they think.. You and I see eye to eye on so much, but this I disagree with you on

I don't disagree with you in total, I just mentioned some things to look at. The rules I mention are pprocess.procedures and requirements for enternment in National/VA Cemetary. They control all sorts of things which apply to all enternments. Spouses can also be buried in same plot with deceased Veteran. And always remember that an elephant is a mouse built to Mil Stds.

They should have a place in a National Cemetery. They served our Country also.
