Well, the plans for the next new year is no plans will or can be made.
I laid it out to Belinda, that her Mother's 80 birthday is next year and there is a big family get together in KS. That is the only trip we will take.
These last few months have not been good to us except for the 18 day vacation trip to Kona, HI.
Replaced: Well pump Water pressure tank Pump wire harness Piping Pressure switches
Then: Pumped out the septic tank Replaced its exit baffle Doug up 8 foot of yard to replace a pipe
Plus: Vacation expenses in Hawaii (Well worth it and we needed it)
Now: Loss of wife's perfect 2002 Chevy impala Expense of her new vehicle and vehicle accident (just waiting to see if we get sued) Doctors visits, treatments, etc, that Tricare might try not pay.
Upcoming: New roof for the House and garage right after the new year. It won't cost as much as the wife's new car.
All in all we are doing OK. We bought this house and property in Nov 1989 just prior to the housing cost boom. We paid it off with my inheiratence and for the last 23 years we have had no house payment. I knew a year would come when we would have to pay for some major up keep.
If the Mayans were correct about Dec 21st 2012 , then I don't have too worry about that roof replacement. Do I ? ;D
Whats your plans or cancelled plans for next year.

Yes indeed you have had a helluva year my friend, but you have come through it and keep on pressing on.
For me... TDY, TDY, TDY... business as usual sort of. With the drastic budget cuts I anticipate a few less TDY's than normal, but regardless still on the road a lot. And my time off comes in the way of visits back and forth to the PI, probably no change there.

We have more trips planned for next year than we really wanted, but.....
First one is to Disneyland in February for our 50th Anniversary.
We have a room booked at the Grand Californian Hotel, at the park.
Got a good rate, as they are having a military appreciation again next year.
Also got 3-Day Park Hopper tickets for $125 each, because of the same promotion.
After Disneyland, we plan to go to Solvang, CA for a night, long enough to walk around town and have a nice dinner at The Little Mermaid Restaurant.
Then to San Jose to spend a couple of days with my cousin and her family.
Next stop will be San Francisco.
Not sure which hotel we will be staying in, but hope to get one in the City, rather than the Peninsula or driving from Travis.
Then home.
We also have trips planned to see our grand-daughter act in her final high school play. She has the lead.
Then for her high school graduation.
Then for her wedding and see them off to Minot Air Force Base, where he is a Minuteman tech.
After that?
Not sure, but maybe a trip back to North Dakota in September.
Lots of windscreen time.
Glad we get decent mileage on our Equinox.
I better get hold of AAA and start having them send me Trip Routings and Tour Books.
I'm tired already.

The first planned event for this new year had its start. Have a contract with Home Depot to replace the roof on the house, garage, & shop. Going to cost just about $13,500 and I'll put it all on my credit card for air-miles.

Plans:
-Ongoing: NO travel anywhere I can't go by car, due to the terrorists from the Committee for State Security... -Need to start: Relearn machining so I can buy PCR's and make my own AR15 or AK from "partial receiver", ideally how to make an AK flat from scratch. Stock up on mags and ammo. Start building food/water/etc supply cache.

LOL MOW, I've been meaning to learn to craft my own iron from scratch anyway, as much for Quality Control as for keeping it off the books. (If I perform all the major manufacturing ops myself, I KNOW who made the equipment I'm trusting my life to and their work ethic and QC/QA standards, right?)
And right now, a part of me REALLY wants to find some Third World banana-republic to invade and set up a new government using the US Constitution as originally written... 'cause I'm not sure there are many REAL Americans left outside the .MIL community.

A bit of advice on Homo Desperate contractors: make them show you their license, here in AZ they use who ever they can get licensed or not..... It is your house- you can be on YOUR roof to watch.. How many sq. feet of roof do you have?? Does it include stripping the old roofing off and putting a hi quality roofing membrane under your 30 year roof? Not 15# black felt?

It includes it all and they are not reusing anything. All is new. I also told them if I think any worker is not legal then I call the Border Patrol. I also said and had it put in the contrat that before I pay Home depot and the contractor will provide me wit a "Waiver of Lean" That protects me against the contractor coming back on me if Home Depot tries to short them. I got 3 full estimates and took the best from them all and then demanded I get that stuff. I also paid close attention to the warranties.

Gary, don't know how HD does in Washington but they make 15% off the contractor here in TX. Pat P.

I had all new floor coverings put in downstairs just after Thanksgiving. It was thrpough Rite Rug. I asked who did installation and they said their most experienced guys...all from Mexico. But they all had green cards. Spoke Spanish to themsleves, but good English to the wife and I. We had "Vinyl" put in Dinette area, kitchen, bath and mud room. They used one single piece to do Dinette, kitchen, closets and bathroom and its closet. It was unreal to see them cut and weave it around. No seams anywhere. Great job and they finished in one day (3 men). The next day another crew, same experience and origin, but just two guys to lay carpet, but another great job. Lowes and Home Depot were more expensive for materials, but installation was cheaper. But overall cost was 15-18% higher than Rite Rug. Few years back I decieded I needed a separate Garage for my lawn mowers, 4-wheelers, bikes and lawn accesories. So I put together a list of requirements and sent to three different contractors, recommended by neighbors. I received two "Proposals in mail, and one contractor came to house. When wife asked me what siding etc I was having put on new garage, contractor said, We can match siding and shingles from house. To this the wife said, why would I put shingles on roof of garage that I don't like. So they also gave me bid to replace shingles on whole house to match the garage (Which wife picked out). I also had them lay a concrete pad around my three car garage 60x25. The guy who came to house won, not only on cost, but also on fact he actually took enough interest to come to house. He also got the additional work of house roof and concrete. When I had my whole house generator installed I got bids from Lowes and Home Depot as well. I was able to buy generator and whole house switch box on web and had installed by manufacturer certified installer (Same guy Lowes and Home Depot uses) for less than purchase price from Lowes/HD. I got everything for $5,000 for 20KWH generator and installation/and Propane installation (from our furnace tank). Lowes and HD were within $50 of each other at $7,000. So I have learned from experience that Lowes/HD are more expensive than going with private contractors and buying materials for them. I actually got a 10% discount from botrh Lowes/HD adn they were still highest bidders on two large proposals.

We put on a 15-26 ft deck this past summer. Our plans to continue this deck around the south side of the house this spring. Built the 15-26 deck strong to hold a 4 season room in the near future. 6#6 posts down below frost level cemented in , and 2#12s across. It cost more but will be worth it in the future.
