Not sure about this, but seem to remember reading something about it being on the fuel pad for a fuel transfer issue and transfering all the fuel aft, putting the center of gravity off. I could be totally wrong though.

Just what it says on Erv's page -
"Photo Dec 1960 via Joe Sylvia of 57-2453 with 498th FIS Geiger Field WA markings. They were testing fuel shifting at McClellan AFB CA - too much weight aft."

Anybody know the story behind this with 57-2453 of the 498th sitting on her tail? MOW, I vaguely remember something about a fuel transfer problem that shifted most of the fuel toward the rear most tanks while the forward tanks were drained? May be totally wrong about my recollection. Pat P. Here's the photo with caption www.f-106deltadart.com/lineage/57245301Large.html

I spent many hours working MA-1 on 2453 at 539th FIS McGuire. It came to 539th after I did in 1964, and wasn't transferred to 95th when 539th disbanded. It, like all 539th birds, was a Round Eye and not a vertical instrument bird.

Like everyone who said CG FUEL TRANSFER is right.......... I forget the exact steps that were to be taken during this test, BUT, every time something like this happened Tech Order steps were not followed.
